Pappy's Predictions - #5
#5 - Appalachian State

WHAT I LIKE: Four starters returning, including their main scorer, Frank Eaves. They held opponents to 32.2% from the arc, which in this era is a big plus. They only have one player on the roster over 6-8, but they have SIX players who are exactly 6-8, so they have plenty of depth with size. They shot 70.9% as a team from the arc

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
Losing Tommy Spagnolo is going to leave a hole, even if he is the only starter gone. He was the workhorse underneath, and he will be missed. This is a very poor-shooting team (39.8% overall and 31.6% from the arc) and they do not take very good care of the ball.

Unless they just collapse, App State has to be better than last year with all they have coming back. If their coach is any good at all, they should take a significant step forward. How far is the question. This might be a little bit of a stretch, but I think they are more over than under this year. After all, App State has one advantage going for them that most of the Belt does not have: they are from a state where basketball matters.

We now know Pappy's Top 4. But in what order? I am thinking that he would like to put the LR Trojans at the top. But with the Trojans so many unknowns to consider, he may not have the courage to do that.

No one would pick a team with so many unknowns to finish first in this league. If we win it, Beard should be the national coach of the year. I don't expect to win the league, just compete and play exciting winning ball.
