Exclamation So Notre Dame becomes ACC's 15th football school
So Notre Dame becomes ACC's 15th football school. Who becomes the 16th school? Texas, Cincinnati, Connecticut, West Virginia or somebody else. 07-coffee3

UConn has no shot. We don't need help in bball. We already have as much of the NE as anyone can get. No desirable recruiting grounds. Perpetually wretched football program with no viewership. Same goes for WVU, except viewership is slightly better and the football program is stronger. Everything else is a huge negative.

WVU is under a GOR anyway. So is Texas. If the GOR holds up, then we'll end up with Cincinnati. It closes the footprint and pokes Delaney in the eye a little.

If the GOR doesn't hold up, then we get Texas. Maybe they'll be happy without bringing other Big 12 refugees if ND is #15. If not, we may end up with the 20 team frankenconference - ND, Texas + 4 other Big 12 refugees.

The thing is the NBC TV contract. $38 million per year and runs through 2025. That is 10 years out.

In this hypothetical scenario, I vote you stay at 15, unless someone along the lines of Texas or Oklahoma is the 16th.

When the conference championship rules no longer require two divisions of at least six teams, I vote you do away with divisions. Each school then has five primary conference partners that they play each season. You then rotate through the other nine teams, three per year, for a total of eight conference games per season. Each school would play all other conference schools at least once during a three year period. At the end of the year, the top two teams face one another in the conference championship game.

By staying at eight conference games per season, you keep FSU, Ga Tech, Louisville, and Clemson happy with the ability to have seven home games and continue facing other P5 teams in home-and-home matchups beyond their current, season ending SEC rivalries. It would also be easier for ND to continue facing Navy, Stanford, and USC annually or at least face Navy annually and rotate between Stanford and USC.

Edit: That math doesn't work. LOL! I still vote that you stay at 15, do away with divisions, and stick with eight conference games. You'd just have to play around with the number of annual games versus rotation games.

I suspect with Notre Dame as a full member for football, the push to go to 9 conference games would become a shove (because, you know, one more game per year with ND).

That also has the advantage of working out well with 15 teams, no divisions:
+ 4 permanent rivals
+ 5 rotating every other year

play all 14 other teams twice every 4 years (i.e. every 4-year student gets to see every other team at least once in their own stadium)

My guess is that if ND joins the ACC, it will be because they only have to play 8 conference games.

Why speculate now? A lot can happen in 10 or 20 years. Teams that look attractive today might not look so good then.

ACC doesn't sponsor Hocky and ND extended their agreement with NBC after they joined the ACC. Contractually, they join the ACC if they join a conference so that would have been written into the NBC contract as well.

Obligatory GTS Tennessee request.

Do away with divisions and have permanent rivals (probably 5).

Wilkie, I doubt Notre Dame joins any conference in our lifetime. That being said; if ND doesn't have a favorite then stay at 15 if we can.

Negative Ghost Rider. You'd probably be able to see the fire from Greenville of the Knoxville campus burning to the ground if such a move were made.

The same could have been said for Maryland. 05-stirthepot

Tennessee and Cincinnati would be a good 15 and 16. Notre dame would just be 17th for all except football. 07-coffee3
