#7 - South Alabama

WHAT I LIKE:
Three returning starters, including their top two scorers. They shoot the 3 adequately and are good from the FT line - and their guards shoot a lot of FTs. Ken Williams and Taishaun Johnson could be able to carry USA on their backs offensively if they can get any help at all from elsewhere.

WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
With the departures of Dionte Ferguson and Abdul Lewis, USA finds itself very thin on experience in the paint. Georgi Boyanov is decent, but he will have to step up his game this season. For a guard-oriented team, they turn the ball over a lot. Their perimeter defense looks weak, as opponents had a college 1.17 A/TO against them and shot 34.5% from the arc.

If the starting guards clean up their act a little and they get some help in the paint, USA might be pretty good this year. But someone is going to have to pick up - quickly - where Ferguson left off.

Judging by the # of Views to Pappy's conference predictions, seems to me fans around the conference enjoy and respect Pappy's assessment of the coming season. I am now trying to predict where he will place the LR Trojans. I sort of believe LR will be his choice for #3 or #4.

I could see Pappy putting us as high as #3, unless he puts ULM ahead of us. That's my off the cuff prediction (3rd or 4th), but I haven't studied it like he obviously does.

I like our 7'1" freshman player Nikola Marijan. I hope to see 4 great years of him in the Sun Belt. :)
