While I dont think there will be a P5 upset this week, its worth noting that Oklahoma and Tennessee play next week. I think BG and Akron could make their games interesting. I'm not completely sold on Tennessee being back so it wouldn't shock me for a BG win. Oklahoma looks like they are going to be real good, but Akron's defense could keep things close if the Sooners are looking ahead to Tennessee.

Kent has a shot at winning with the mess Illinois is. But Illinois needs this game for any chance at a bowl, so they wont be looking past Kent.

WMU should keep their game respectable at home, but MSU could be the second best team in the country.

Quote:Dear UofToledoFans,
Old Dominion will also have a new quarterback. As an aside, Eastern is not going to be everyone's easy victory in the next few years. Coach Creighton and his staff are putting the pieces together for a winning program.

Dear Kenneth,

EMU has a good chance of winning, notably it being at home + what you pointed out with OLD having a new QB. However, nothing has indicated that Creighton is Actually creating a winning program. Nothing last year indicated that, and EMU has no history of that. It's technically possible, it's long overdue for EMU -- but until they are improving year after year, or suddenly jump to at or near .500 -- that's just hope smoke. :)

Details on My Picks TODAY:

Okie. St. @ CMU
Tickets are $8-$11 on stubhub right now. Why? CMU is the maroon-headed step-child, and Ok-State is the child molester recently released from prison about to knock on her door. It's going to be brutal.

VMI @ Ball State
BSU wants to make a statement. Akron & UMass are the potential sleepers of the East, and BSU is the true sleeper of the West. They're going to win big here letting loose and getting their players in gear for the real season.

Stony Brook @ Toledo
Point spread is about 27 from what I say (yes, with an FCS club). Toledo has 2 players out due to violations, but Toledo won't need it to bury Stony Brook's face in the mud and make use of their deep lineup to do so.

Ohio @ Idaho
Ida-Who? Idaho sucks. Ohio isn't going to have a stellar year, but their QB last year who came in later in the season looks pretty good. Ohio, the by-default favorite for 2nd place is going to need to tune up, as they'll need to have their A-game during the season to get 2nd place in the MAC-East with the East improving a lot this year. Look for Ohio to win very solidly. If they completely stomp Idaho, this could mean Ohio very well may get 2nd place.

This game is flying under the radar here in Michigan with Harbaugh's debut and WMU hosting MSU. Though it's great for CMU to be hosting a P5 team again, it's probably for the best.

VMI @ Ball St
VMI's a bad FCS team and Ball St should be trending up.

Stony Brook @ Toledo
Hey, UT is supposed to finish 2nd in the MAC. Should knock Stony Brook off easy

Ohio @ Idaho
Idaho is just bad. If Ohio loses this, I'll be disappointed in the MAC.

FRIDAY 9/4

Mich. St. @ WMU
I reallllly want to pick WMU. But not that I'm a conspiracy theorist, but the refs won't let us win this with that big MSU/Oregon primetime game the next weekend. :/ Should be closer then people think.

Kent St. @ Illinois
Illinois a bad Big 10 team but the problem is Kent St is a bad MAC team. (sorry Flashes!)

SATURDAY 9/5

ODU @ EMU
ODU went 6-6 last season, but 2 of their wins came against bottom-of-D1 FIU and FAU. Another came vs the FCS team. And then there was EMU, who they certainly didn't dominate. If EMU's trending up, they've got to win their season opener vs ODU. Should be a good one.

Albany @ Buffalo
Don't know much about this one. UB should pull it off.

Presby @ Miami
If Miami wants to get back into the winning ways, this is a must-win off the bat.

BGSU @ Tennessee (Nashville)
Just out of curiosity, anyone know why this game's at a 'neutral' site? If the MAC gets an upset, it'll be this one.

Akron @ Oklahoma
UA's looking better and better each year and has put up decent fights vs Michigan and Penn St these past couple years, but I don't think they'll pull it off.

UNLV @ NIU
Should be a good one. This is a good test for NIU right off the bat.

Everything should go according to the popular pick this week. The ODU/EMU, WMU/MSU, NIU/UNLV, and Miami/Presbyterian games are ones to watch. I'll be at a wedding though and will only be going to the WMU/MSU game so will miss out on the others. Maybe catch OSU/CMU Thursday, not sure, as I'll be in The Zoo Thursday.

"Why UT v BG in Nashville'?
UAB backed out on UT and SC State backed out on BG for the same opening weekend. UT & BG connected and BG replaced UAB in Nashville. For BG it was a last second schedule adjustment to fill an unexpected hole. I have no idea why UT wanted to play UAB there.

BG had so much fun a few miles north of there last year against WKU, they decided to try again. Hopefully we at least get paid this time.

Here's hoping both Tennessee and Oklahoma are looking forward to each other. Maybe BG & Akron can surprise them. That might be a good new scheduling strategy for MAC teams.

Posters who correctly picked all of the correct winners: Wadszip, Michael James, DogPoundNorth, Steve1981, inductchuck16, UofToledoFans, nbcards

The most common slip up was picking EMU over ODU.
