No, a child is definitely tougher.

But I will fully admit that house-breaking a yellow lab in a second story apartment was not easy.

First few months are hell, then it isn't that bad. They pretty much sleep through the rest of the first year and don't cost you any extra money going out to eat and are free to get in to entertainment venues and amusement parks. Now my 6 year old is pretty independent, but he can out-eat me at dinner and we have to buy an extra ticket/season pass for everything. About to start the cycle over again.

We are in the midst of house-breaking my almost 3 year old. He's finally getting the hang of it.

Good luck. Boys are difficult. My 6-year old still schits his pants sometimes.

I agree, my son was more difficult than my daughter. However, we found that just taking the diaper off and letting them pis or crap in their "big person" underwear a couple of times solves the problem. Eventually they get tired of the mess and having to clean up. Recommend that method only if one has non carpet floors.

Exactly. While I couldn't do this because of the location of my job versus my parents, I don't see a problem with living at home to help strengthen one's finances. Ditto about having roommates to help save on rent.

This isn't the 1970s where you can have a summer job that pays the college tuition, and then a semester job that helps you save for your future. Even the BEST paying summer internships are only a few thousand dollars, which hardly makes a dent in most tuition bills.

People should let a few bad apples who leech off their parents color their opinion about everyone in that situation.

I had a roommate until I was 27.....I didn't get married right out of the gate...and didn't pull that trigger until I was 33

I think you are confusing two separate issues.

living on the parents dime w/o a plan is different than using that shelter to help achieve goals.....

I don't think anyone is arguing against the latter....

when I previously mentioned I moved out at 17 and never looked back, I hardly moved into the upper east side flying solo.....I struggled like most college kids do today....hell, my first roommate was gay, and I couldn't tell you half of ;my former roommates' names........regardless, it was fun learning that way.........it's economics....which in essence means we agree on the latter

disclaimer: beer and expenses were infinitely cheaper back in my day 03-wink ....that's where this generation is getting screwed up the arse......the spread in having the possibility to achieve is more difficult.....

also, do not discount the overall population in numbers as a major contributor to this generation;s issues...it's one of a handful, but it's a biggie in my book....

thank you dems....

Amen. I know a few of these as well.

I will say, however, that when one properly house-breaks a dog....it's a tiresome process at night.

I don't think many would begrudge something along these lines. But that's not who we are talking about here. Least not me. I thinking of the kid who simply moves back in and basically resumes their HS life style. Or worse.

I still go back to my belief that it isn't an issue of desire; it's an issue of kids not knowing how to even start achieving their goals.

It's a question of internet crazies thinking they can make blanket statements that cover everyone...

Every situation is different, just worry about yourself, and let others worry about what they do.

This is great logic.

Because 100% of them aren't experiencing the same exact situation, there can's possibly be a problem of any sort nor can one have a generalized opinion on the subject.

Sigh.
