I live about 5 miles from the Rent (I'm admitting this?) although I think I am at another game that weekend. I'll give you some advice on UConn tailgating.
1. It's going to be cold ! Nov 21.... damn. I really think Houston will need this game to win the West (I picked them to win the West but this is a serious trap game). Who knows though.. I've taken eggplants out of my garden after Thanksgiving before.. but it's also snowed before then. I'm betting on cold.
2. UConn is going to be god awful this year. Probably not as bad as last year. You should easily be able to get tickets as an "upgrade" when you get there.
3. There's decent food now (and beer) inside the stadium.
4. Parking is ample and easy.. it's right off 3 highways. The field is surrounded by a giant grass field in all directions with the only exception a random Cabella's in the middle. Trust me though, you won't need to worry about finding parking because UConn will probably so bad at this point it will be easy to find. Margaritas across the street is a decent bar/dinner but if you are coming from Houston you probably don't want to eat Mexican food up here!
5. Go check out the campus after or before the game if you've never been and you have time. Beautiful campus - I'd put it in my top 5 of campuses I've been on (Cal-Berkeley and Flagler College being co-Number 1s). It's half an hour away (or so) but now that they've built a town around it, there's places to eat there, etc. East Hartford, where the stadium is, it's pretty industrial.. it's not unsafe really during the day at all, but there's not much there. Sure there are bars and all in Hartford and the mall area of Manchester - but take away around Storrs if you have the time.
6. UConn fans have a reputation of being jerks in the parking lot.. and that's true if you come from Rutgers or BC or Syracuse or some local school. I think they'll probably be pretty friendly with Houston fans at that point because they'll just be happy people are making the trip here. They will probably be nice to you.
