Texas DL is also a bit banged-up (see Statesman Article) but very deep and probably a strength of the team. Losing your best OL who has NFL talent for that game would be huge loss. Let's hope that 4 weeks can be 3.5 weeks.

Hope all you want, but recent history with Rice football injuries is that the player takes 2 - 3 weeks LONGER than originally projected before coming back from injury....and then Bailiff nurses them back into action very, very gradually.

I have heard that German is having the best camp from the QBs. He is a true dual threat with blazing speed. DJ scrimmaged well but is throwing picks at practice. Let's hope that doesn't carry over to practice. Edmondson will be conservative with him which I think is not helping DJ develop fully.

Sorry but did I just read someone comparing Granato and Stehlings numbers. That's like comparing grapes and watermelons. Granato level of play was 2A at best. He had slow 160 pound kids chasing him. Stehlings, German and DJ all played 5A which was the highest level at the time. Not a fair comparison, private school is too weak to compare.

I think the number one DT in America is a senior at Episcopal this year. They also have an O lineman who is top 10 or 20 or some such (who we are recruiting).

Don't sell the private schools short.

I heard about this Episcopal kid and you're right he is rated high but I also agree that at a skill position in particular QB, the level that has prepared you makes all the difference in the world. Speed of the game.

RE: Scrimmage #1
SCRIMMAGE #2 - I did not make it but did get a brief breakdown from a dad who was there and also went to practice during the week. Comments were that todays practice was more situational, it was not a normal scrimmage. They were working on certain packages. Offense - DJ played one series from the 10 yard line. He threw a TD. I did hear that he was struggling with his throws during practice, not very crisp but apparently he may be bruised up. Stehling and German did not throw much today, worked more on the running. Both had good throws but were sacked. DL was in the backfield often. German had a couple of good runs. RB's Walter kid and Stewart looked good at moments. They lose yards then bust a long run. WR - #5 Wright made some good plays. Defense - #44 Womac had a good day. Negatives I heard was fumbles by WR and running backs. A few players went down with injuries, not sure how serious.....

Jhamon Ausbon is a 6'4, 214 lb junior WR at St. Thomas H.S. He's a 4 star recruit who has signed with Baylor.

Looking forward to breakout seasons from some of these redshirt freshmen on offense that keep flashing in fall camp.

Agree Talon.....Walter, Stewart, Wright all hold great potential as difference makers

Happy to hear about these younger guys doing things in scrimmages, but would much rather hear about the obvious starters who seem to be held out of all these scrimmages. Are their injuries serious? A timetable on when they might be back? I mean, I don't think these receivers and backs are the guys we want to see starting against Wagner...

Think of it like the NFL preseason. Why would you play your known commodities?

No, they are the ones we want to see playing in the second quarter.

Good point, good point. I just don't want to see the same thing we had with Jordan Taylor last year. "oh, he's just letting the younger guys play, he's fine and ready to go!" That didn't turn out so well.
