That new Kroger in Gtown is most impressive...visited the parents yesterday and I took em to do their shopping there...had lunch at Corky's, had some Starbucks afterwards, and then did their shopping, while never leaving the Kroger.

Then Whole Foods opens next week, I believe.

You mean like the Fresh Market and Sprouts that Germantown already has? At some point that area will be over saturated with grocery options...

Woo hoo. Here's a fine fetching reason to go toTrader Joes. Might need an expert to weigh in, though. This Scotch drinking thing is a new fun game, and I'm ready to play. 02-13-banana

"Trader Joe's Scotch program: they keep their prices low buy picking up remnants and small bottlings from Scotch distilleries that, for some reason or another, are deemed unfit for bottling under a given brand name."

I don't know if they will be able to sell spirits in Tennessee, when the law changes.

^ I do know that law is spurring a lot of this grocery growth...Whole Foods, Fresh Market, Sprouts...they've all been expanding big time in Memphis...that is forcing Kroger to 'keep up with the Joneses' with projects like Union Ave and Germantown.

IKEA, Cheesecake Factory, H&M, Trader Joes?

good stuff for the 'perception' of Memphis...

I figure Publix will probably get in the game once some of these come in & get established as well....we went to one at the beach this summer & I mentioned we were from Memphis. The girl checking me out was originally from here, & said she had heard Publix would be expanding here sooner rather than later.

Screw Trader Joe's. They have dangled the possibility for 5+ years and now they are late to the party with Sprouts and Whole Foods in town.

Give me a grocery store that can compete with Kroger not a bunch of specialty stores that still make me have to go to Kroger.

Trader Joe's can stay away as far as I'm concerned.

Would rather have a Publix

But hey...who wants to rain on another person's delusion. Let them eat Trader Joes!!

"Frauds! An estimated 69% of all store-bought extra virgin olive oils in the US are probably fake, according to tests by the University of California. UC Davis tested samples from the top-selling extra virgin olive oil brands to find the ones that are not worth buying and those that are."

"Of the five top-selling imported “extra virgin” olive oil brands in the United States, 73 percent of the samples failed the IOC sensory standards for extra virgin olive oils analyzed by two IOC-accredited sensory panels."

I remember this study - we only use the costco version (kirklands) which passed.

On another olive oil related note, got some specialty olive oil from that olive oil store on the square - damn is it good.

A mafia guy used to sell olive oil to our whole chain. Nice dude actually. Always brought the managers a Pannettone around Christmas time.

With Olive Oil ya just nevah know.

"You may also know that the only way to ensure the Italian olive oil you buy is real is to go straight to the sources in the Italian countryside where, as with France’s Burgundy chateaux, you can witness the production process yourself, or rely on trustworthy contacts."

Publix would allow me to shop under one roof for everything, including dog food and Cokes and reasonable paper goods. BUT I have heard the reason it is not here has more to do with the fact that their closest warehouse is Nashville and they deem that too far. I hope that rumor is false.
