the guy at Western Michigan is and if houston signs all our recruits (big if) tom herman at houston is the only one with a legitimate debate

he brought in the highest rated class in the MAC EVER last year on a team with no name brand and no notable history, all were regular qualifiers, none were p5 fallbacks...he is also set to DESTROY that record by an even wider margin again this year

if Houston keeps all its recruits (again big if) then herman at houston is only one to have a argument..as on his first full recruiting cycle (the current class) will be the highest rated class ever to sign to a non-power school and the highest rated recruit to ever commit to a non-power school

Agreed. That Western Michigan guy is crazy good.

Just like how everyone else puts up with Marshall fans

Remember that time Temple had like 40 yards offense against Marshall? That was pretty cool.

First, and simplest, is the $500,000 exit fee. Each team who left is liable for that amount and must pay it in some fashion. Memphis, for example, left enough ncaa basketball credits along with negotiating to play certain teams whereby they are in the clear on that. Other teams made similar arrangements but those who didnt will need to pay to the benefit of the remaining original members.

Secondly was the tv situation. The contract drawn up including the original teams stipulated that if one or more left then they would be responsible for the reduction in tv money if the media lowered their payments. That agreement was binding ONLY on those original teams and ONLY for the term of the contracts. NO contract was lowered thus the league lost no money thus none of the teams who left owe anything. Those who left CANNOT be held responsible for any FUTURE arrangements.
Accurate information, again, Eager.
The diminution clause deals with the network using the power to reduce the contract during the course of that contract. they never did and thus no diminution payments are due. this also might give some hope that the next contract won't be much lower.

I believe the penalty for exiting is different based on whether the school was a charter member or not.
