Now I am sure there is much more to these numbers but at first glance this years dues just about negate the new money coming in from the CFP distribution...and on top of that we have to pay for COA which is about $800k.

Wow - there must be something behind this....some reason the MAC is charging more - not just operating expenses. That does not make sense

I sure hope so.

Could that figure be a combination of the COA and the membership fees? COA is estimated at around 800k and that's roughly the difference between this year's #s and last year's.

Wait...what? 400% Fee increase? How is this possible...or I guess if you take out the $800K then it's still like a 52% increase, that's pretty sharp...

I looked into this a bit more and found the reason for the 500% increase. We paid up our dues for 5 years thru 8/31/2020.

So....we will be part of the MAC for the next 5 years? Or, is this a little parting gift from NIU to the MAC?

I thought the same thing...why prepay? If you have the cash handy let it earn some interest. Maybe one of 2 things:
The MAC was nervous about all the conf jumping talk and wanted a commitment.
Or
NIU is paying towards a future exit fee.

Very interesting regarding the MAC wanting security or NIU paying exit fees in advance...

Commitment fees seem to be the way of the present in this conference. NIU even did it to its season ticketholders with the 3-year commitment last year. Lucky there wasn't any cash outlays on our part or season ticketholder numbers would have hit rock bottom.

Lets see if any of the other schools (like Toledo or Buffalo) are paying the 5 years too.

Maybe by prepaying they are able freeze current fee rate and not have to deal with any increases that might occur by paying annually.

When I saw we prepaid my first question is did any other school prepay? I am really confused why we would send in the cash for 5 years. The has to be a story behind that payment otherwise it would be poor management and I am sure that is not the case. This is very interesting.
