Houston Men's Hoops in China
Game 1 of 4 in the books. Houston beat the Chinese Junior National Team 93-83.

Houston was led in scoring by five newcomers. Wing Damyean Dotson led with 21. Dotson transferred after starting two seasons at Oregon. Juco post Kyle Meyer and Juco combo guard Rob Gray had 14, as did freshman PG Galen Robinson. PG Ronnie Johnson had 10 points.

Meyer started his career at Iowa. Gray was offered by Memphis. Robinson received the Guy Lewis Award for top HS player in Houston last year. Johnson started at Purdue before transferring in.

Houston loses to Qingdao 77-66 in game 2. Game was tied at the end of 3rd quarter.

Qingdao finished 3rd in the Chinese NBA last year.

The game was called with 90 seconds to play after a scuffle broke out.

Officials called 37 fouls on Houston vs 12 on Qingdao. Qingdao shot 44 FTs to Houston's 12.

Houston was led in scoring by yet another newcomer, juco post Bert Nkali who redshirted last year.

Houston is going to be a physical team, I'm all for that. Home town take down.

Coogs win rematch with Qingdao Doublestars today (Sunday).

Rubber game with Doublestars on Monday.

Full crowd on hand today for the grand opening of a new arena. Might be the toughest road game of the year . . .

More on game 3 (Sunday):

Houston beat the DoubleStars 74-64 despite another huge FT/foul disparity. Leron Barnes led UH with 13 points, while Devonta Pollard, Rob Gray and Ronnie Johnson had 12.

This means 8 different players have scored in double figures at least once in the first three games. Gray and Johnson have done it twice. Six of the eight players are new faces.

The Qingdao Doublestars finished 3rd in the Chinese NBA last year with a record of 28-10.

************
Initial reports are coming out that Houston beat the Doublestars again on Monday.

So the Coogs go 3-1 on the trip.

Score and stats from Game 4 are expected soon.

*************
We now have a final score. Houston 79 Qingdao Doublestars 76.

I'm starting to get pumped about the coming season. I knew I should get on the UH bball bandwangon early. I have great season ticket seats to a team that will be good in the near future.

Do you think that is coach speak or do you believe? I know he said last year... We would stink... And, we def' stunk it up!

I guess we have been bad so long...it's hard to buy in at this point.

I believe because he did not lie to us last season. He could have used coach speak to try to smooth over what we would face last season, but he gave us cold hard truth. There is no reason for him to start fibbing now.

I honestly think Houston and Tulane are going to be two of the most improved teams. That could make the league pretty strong through the top 8 teams. I am not as certain where USF, UCF and ECU will end up. Hopefully this is a banner year where the league cleans up OOC and finally gets 5 or 6 teams into the tourney with some solid seeds.
