Is he holding up a 'Sarcasm Sign'??? ;-)

;-) Yes indeed.

You guys need your own stadium. 04-cheers

If the MOSI moves does happen, then I can see a stadium in the near future 5 years. If they don't move then I see us at RJS for a longer period unless the Big12 stipulates we must gave an ocs to be considered for expansion

If the B12 would've told you that they would have already have moved on.

Correct if the Big12 had said that, USF would already be building an OCS.
Our AD is in close contact with Big12 commish as well as other ADs in that conference. I'm sure all of our conference ADs are doing the same

I know I'm in the minority, but I don't see it as a critical need. CJL talked about how playing at RJS was one of his biggest recruiting positives. Kids WANTED to play in an nfl/super bowl stadium. A lot of the huge programs want a marquis venue to get a return game. And obviously, it's posh as hell, which can never be considered a negative. And it's not THAT far from campus... we don't have a problem like Umass does... with the NFL stadium a few hours away.

Yeah I know we lose the on-campus experience, blah blah... But I really disagree with the notion that we're in a 'bad' situation. When we were putting 50-60K there and winning, it was rocking and no one complained that the seats were red.

OCS, hell yes... but it needs to be higher end... my 2 cents.

Question for the USF fans:

I know that Nippert and TDECU surely get you that 'on campus' feeling... I've visited both. Even when you drive in, you feel a part of all that buzz...

Do you all really think that playing at the MOSI site will re-create that experience? This is going to be on the extreme SW corner of (really 'off'') campus, beyond all the Sun Dome parking lots, etc., and across a very busy Fowler Ave. Yes easier for students to walk over, but I'd imagine all the drive-in crowd would not notice much of a difference, from the commute perspective. Drive in, parking lot, drive out. Not many will want to park somewhere in the heart of campus and make that walk.

Yes a green and gold stadium right next to campus would be great... and I'm all for it... but a better situation might be the NE corner inside Fletcher, or where we currently practice...

Just wondering what you all think...

Yeah, the problem is that its been a really long time since that stadium was "rocking". And almost every game that has ever been over 50,000+ for usf was against a current P5 team (only exception was UCF). And you haven't been over 50k since 2009. What an on campus stadium does is brings more student involvement and it raises the floor for the low attendance numbers. I mean think about it this way: no current usf student has seen an average attendance over 30,000/game. And thats straight form the inflated numbers on a usf website. So no student, except for maybe a 5th year senior, has never seen ray jay "rocking". Hard to build tradition and a bigger fan base that way.

And if you look at usf's actual attendance numbers you were never consistently putting 50-60k in the stadium. In your best years you were averaging like 42k

Lots of unnecessary darts in there as usual... lets discuss it civilly if we can, without the usual "USF Sucks" BS....? The fact that it's been a few years since we've won is beside the point...

I think you and I can agree that the team totally cratering also destroyed attendance... so pointing that out really has little to do with the OCS debate (winning always =attendance). How well did UCF draw the year you didn't win any games? Well USF was pretty damn lucky to win ANY games the last two years. I don't think we really need to data mine this, but I recall mostly very well attended games when we were ranked for several years. Games against WV, etc. If you want to believe our only well attended games were against big opponents... so be it.

FWIW, I know UCF didn't sell out at least one HOME cUSA CCG at BHNS. Not a slam at all, I'm just trying to show you that this cycles normally almost everywhere, and it takes years of winning to build up that die-hard fanbase.... When a team sucks, no one attends... unless you are Texas or Ohio State... The rest of us trying to grow fanbases in highly competitive big markets understand this... You also have to realize we just started playing in 1997. Not an excuse, just a simple and relative fact.

Just having an OCS equating to 'vastly better' attendance is very debatable indeed... Look at some of the teams playing in new stadiums. Well attended? Yes. Better than offsite? Impossible to know. I'd bet big money that USF wouldn't draw much better, as bad as the team has been for several years now.

Bottom line is, for a losing team I'd agree the OCS might get a few additional students at the game... but I don't believe it would dramatically improve attendance for a really bad team. And those student seats don't generate any $$$. But I KNOW that a winning USF team will draw extremely well at RJS.

I don't believe that even if MOSI moves, the county will give all that land to USF, so most will probably park across the street on campus allowing the campus tail gating and walking around it for some. You will probably see a larger bridge crossing Fletcher than the current one.
I agree that if the team is losing attendance won't change much. If we win we will do fine. The biggest reason for moving on campus is to create the tie with the university not for attendance purposes.

I remember when we played off-campus in 2013 and hated it. (I was in preschool when the SWC folded and UH left the Astrodome) I don't see how USF and Temple fans put up with it.

When it's all you know, you don't know how bad it is. I don't say that as a slight, I say it from experience as a UCF fan during the Citrus Bowl years.

I meant crossing Fowler not Fletcher LOL

On campus stadium is so big for a school. Not just an attendance thing. I remember UC playing OSU at Paul Brown and there being 66k fans there (largest crowd to watch a game in Cincy ever) and also UC playing Oklahoma (~58K) came to that one. Even with these large crowds and marquee teams, the fans that went said it still wasn't the same as being at Nippert smack dab in the middle of UC's campus.

USF drew some great crowds to RayJay back in 2007ish...I remember seeing UC play them there and USF was ranked and the place was pretty full....but even with that, it wouldn't have been as special as playing on USF's campus in their own venue. I would bet the USF folks would agree with me on that.

USF as a school doesn't jump into things, everything takes time to study and create a plan, so when they do move they do a good job as can be seen by all the sports facilities around the university. They didn't happen overnight. The MOSI situation has given the university an opportunity to acquire land that could lead to building an OCS, so not surprised plans are being looked at. I am sure USF will eventually build an OCS and as I said the MOSI situation has moved the plan ahead of schedule.

Id ask UCF this question. Their stadium is kinda to the far side of the campus and yet it made the gameday experience a million times better than being in a semi empty Citrus Bowl. It was a major turning point for their program because game day became more of an exiting event with a "fuller" feel to it.

As far as the location...it COULDNT be more perfect. If we were to move the stadium to within our campus, the chance of selling the name for any decent money goes down. Were talking about building on a road that nearly everyone goes past in order to get to Busch Gardens. The traffic counts is VERY high and will be much easier to sell the naming rights.
Add in that it already an over the road crosswalk that can be used.... and that advertising for the University could be hung on! That crosswalk could be made into a major advertising piece that announces the arrival to USF country.

That location is a dream come true and just because it is roughly 100 yards off campus doesnt cause any issues. We can build about a 45-50K seat stadium and have considerable parking with all that land.

Then people can also park at the sundome and use the crosswalk to come over. They can also direct the traffic out to two major roads which will make getting in and out much better.

So far, I know USF has 3 of the votes to get the land. I dont believe the Two UF grads on the board will vote yes, but there are two Indiana University grads on the board who I think are rather reasonable and will see this as a natural fit that will bring alot of business to that area.

This.

I would argue that pre-game festivities are some of the most memorable experiences in college. They bring people together fans, alums and current students. For Tulane, playing in the Dome wasn't just a poor fit but the tailgating stunk.

I don't think there's anything wrong with our stadium location. You mostly have to walk through campus to park and tailgate anyhow, unless you're a pass holder or gkc member. If you didn't, I always parked far away cause I enjoyed walking through campus on game day and it was much easier to drive out.
