It's just not a good sign that we are heavily recruiting a lot of Juco kids every single year.
Where is Laurinburg Prep when you need them?
Something bad happened to them after that one Memphis group finished there eligibility didn't it?
Something happened to all prep schools (diploma mills).
It's why JCs are making a comeback.

The quality of the juco ranks has really gone down in the last few years for some reason. You used to even see NBA prospects at the juco ranks but there are no Qyntel Woods or Nick Van Exels coming out of there anymore. The same goes for d2 and d3 because I read an article that non d1 player hasn't made the pros in about 10 years. You might get a decent role player from juco but there aren't as many game changers anymore. For the most part these guys really are throw aways now.

The downward spiral of junior college basketball quality coincided with the rise of prep schools. Now that most of the prep schools got the NCAA ban hammer, I'd imagine junior colleges will make a comeback as far as second tier talent.
However, I think as for having NBA (star) talent, that in this day and age you will not see the best of the best be "allowed" to be ineligible, forcing them to choose junior college. They would just play a year overseas instead. IMO, a guy like Larry Johnson would never go to JC in this day and age - he'd be made eligible or he'd go put in a year in Europe somewhere, then declare for the following NBA Draft.
As far as just NBA players though, Cleanthony Early was a JC, played at Wichita, was early second round pick and is still in the league, so it's not beyond the realm for a guy to develop his game at the JC level. Jimmy Butler is a really good player for the Bulls and a former JC, and Jae Crowder was a solid role player for the Celtics and a former JC, so you can still find talent out there. Marcus Thornton, Joel Anthony, a few others as well.

I think the fall of Basketball JC ,D2 and D3 from 20 years ago comes from three factors.
Jucos are not getting as many kids any longer because many kids are getting identified so young that they have enough time to get most grades in line before it is too late.
The second is AAU which makes it much harder for a talented kid not to get noticed.
Last is technology...If you have talent someone will find you with all the tools available to coaches and scouts now.
Now Football is a different story. Some kids do get missed and it is not unheard of for a kid to be a star on the football field his senior year after not playing at all through the remainder of his High School Career.

Per various tweets Davis is a four-star SG from College of Southern Idaho.
He had visits planned to Texas A&M , Alabama and LSU and is the 5th best JUCO player by 247Sports.

I can tell you this with 100% certainty, if Damon knew how bad it really was here before he took the job, he wouldn't have taken it.
Damon coached here before, so...he has amnesia too? Have you had a personal discussion with Damon or are you just blowing hot air?

Are you counting a player who was JUCO who went to a D1 program in your analysis?

Nice crossover
Nice shooting form tho he does something strange with his left hand
Good leaper
I don't think that reverse layup he relies on will work in d1
What do I know

Damon hasn't been assistant coaching that long, and you can tell he's built connections across the country already.

The coach at Laurenburg left and went to the Patterson school. Then I think he left there too. The NCAA shut the prep school thing down calling them "diploma mills". More selective enforce to if you ask me.
