Nothing to see here. This is not the video you were looking for.....
Arkansas 427 yards? Seemed like scarcely more than 700 yards or so....

Don't let the 52-14 score or whatever it was fool you. You can make yards on their defense and NIU held up surprisingly well against the run. Now don't get me wrong, NIU got it handed to them, but that's not an impossible task.

It was exactly what I wanted to see. Arkansas capitalizing on miscues.
Rockets cannot afford to let this game in Little Rock get out of hand by their own errors. Many players on UT have played at SEC venues(UF,Mizzou). There should be no jitters from this group.

Thats if Arkansas allows Toledo to even have the ball for 20 minutes of the entire game. Their HUGE OLine and rushing game is going to slow the game down and their drives last 5+ minutes each time.
I hope the results for your game are much better than ours but it is going to be very difficult to capitalize on much against them with how they set the tempo.

NIU defense couldn't get off their blocks, had no pass rush putting lots of pressure on DBs in coverage. The NIU Oline couldn't handle the defensive front seven of Arkansas. Huskie special team play had major issues. This was not the typical NIU performance.

I will add that a lot of the players in that video- Marshall (RB, kick returner), Flowers, Philon, Spaight and Mitchel (all defense) are now gone. Marshall transferred to Eastern Illinois after being kicked off the team and the others are in the NFL.
I've said before that it will be a good test for some of our new linebackers going against a great running back. Spaight led the SEC in tackles last year for us.

From that highlight video, NIU looked like they didn't even belong on that field with Arkansas. I really hope the Rockets don't lay a dud like the Huskies did. It seems like Arkansas eats up about every dink and dunk passing play. And the Huskies didn't have much success with that read option...two things the Rockets love to do.
The good thing for us Rocket fans, Kareem the dream is the real deal. Big time back. We're going to need him to have a Chester Taylor-like day back in the 2000 win over Penn State in Happy Valley.

I don't know about Arkansas' line this year but last year their O-line averaged close to 330 lbs, bigger than every NFL line.

This post prompted me to look up the box score from that game. I forgot just how dominating of a performance that was. Total yards were 385 to 166 and rushing yards were 245 to 30. I know the rushing is skewed a bit because Penn State was down the whole game, but the 30 yards came on 27 carries. First downs were 25 to 9. And all that took place in Happy Valley!

That game was truly a game for the ages---it was arguably the last year that UT played lights out defense for an entire season----one broken play accounted for the Penn State scoring. IIRC UT had 8 defensive linemen that could rotate in and out freely with essentially no drop off. In addition UT somehow knew their snap count and that gave the UT D a big edge. I never heard the story of how that came about, but I suspect it was probably due to Pinkel's obsession with studying film to learn the opponent's tendencies----which I personally suspect he was also able to do against UT in the second Mizzou game where the veteran UT O-line was owned much of the game by Mizzou----the only game I remember that being the case.

The Rockets defensive picked up Penn State blocking schemes and knew where the play was going by reading their OL. The lone Penn State score was on a play where the PSU QB was running for his life towards his right sidelines with a slew of Rockets in pursuit and closing when he passed across the field to a wide open Larry Johnson who took it for a score. The PAT was missed. Total domination by the Rockets who opened the game with some six or seven straight passing plays moving right down the field for a TD.

Don't worry, we will run the ball as much or more than Arkansas. With Kareem Hunt and Damien Jones-Moore carrying the ball, we will eat up a lot of clock. We just have to make sure we put the ball in the end zone. The O-line will do just fine.

Rockets will need to be able to pass the fB to open up the run game.
Just need not to get in any 3rd and longs. My guess is a lot of teams will play run first with UT.So play action/slant stuff.
