NFL/Fantasy Football Discussion
Now that training camp is well underway I felt this thread was necessary for us pro football fans here.
The big news so far, of course, is the injury to Arian Foster. The Texans brought in Pierre Thomas for a workout but didn't sign him. I wonder who they're thinking of bringing in now? Chris Johnson? Yuck.

You're a Jets fan. You should know all about a team bringin in "past their time" RB's.
Also, during football season everyone will be a Bills fan or face possible temporary suspension from the boards. I'm pretty sure that's within my authorities.
JK. I wouldn't do that to all of you. Just SN08...

For the record, I wasn't all that thrilled when the Jets signed him last year. A pure speedback who lost his speed is worthless. Give me the bruiser (like our own Chris Ivory) any day.

Ivory is still hanging around huh?
All I know is the AFC East is looking like a big time division this coming year.

The Texans are an organization that, historically, only wants high character guys. They've loosened a little bit on that, but with Jadeveon Clowney's dad being charged with murder and Clowney himself not reportedly being a great locker room guy, I doubt they want to add more drama.
Not to mention, Rice is done. His numbers were already on the decline before his off the field troubles. Chalk it up to him averaging nearly 350 touches per season for a 4-year period (2009-2012). It made it fairly easy for the Ravens to move on from him.

That he is. The only Jet RB in over a decade who has had the ability to actually push the pile and create extra yardage. His super aggressive running style will get him destroyed eventually, but he's certainly fun to watch.
Curtis Martin, as much as I loved him, tended to take what the O-line gave him and relied on his vision and elusiveness. Thomas Jones fell down on first contact and benefitted from terrific offensive lines as well. Shonn Greene tried to act the part of a bruiser by initiating contact unnecesarilly, yet he wasn't that hard to tackle, and always got up from hits looking like he'd just been shot. Ivory is a bit of a different breed. Sort of a poor man's Marshawn Lynch with zero ability to catch passes.

I think Rice still has some left in the tank. Alfred Blue is more than capable but Rice could be a solid backup.

Thing is, Pierre Thomas was brought in but turned the Texans down. My guess is the Texans saw Pierre as more of a complimentary back, getting 55 % of the snaps at most once he got into football shape, and wanted to pay him RB2 money as a result. Pierre, meanwhile, likely prefers to continue to wait for a better situation and more pay.
Pure speculation, yes, but do you really think Rice would be fine with a similar situation and pay? Maybe, since he's just trying to get back on a football field and start restoring his image. But I doubt the Texans want that distraction either.

I don't think ole Ray Ray has a choice. Someone gives him a shot i think he has to take it to prove A, he can still play and B he can't walk the straight n arrow.

Yeah, Ray sounds like he desperately just wants back in the league. If he hasn't done so already he's really going to have to come to terms with an RB2 type contract or go to a garbage team on a one year deal and try and squeeze on a contender next year if he proves he still has it.

RE: OT: NFL/Fantasy Football Discussion
Aging RB's rarely get onto rosters EXCEPT when teams are really desperate. Rice may well be the best RB on the market right now but he's no longer a dynamic force like he was in his prime. Teams lean on that line of thinking just as heavily as they recognize the baggage and media frenzy this would cause.
HBO, for one, would love it. The Texans are on "Hard Knocks" this season, and with Arian Foster's injury, all they have to talk about is a QB competition between Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallet and the typical "Rudy" stories of fringe guys making the final cuts. With a heavy dose of JJ Watt and Jadeveon Clowney in the middle of it all, naturally.

Breaking News (literally).
The J-E-T-S QB, Geno Smith, just had his jaw fractured by a teammate as a result of a locker room brawl. He's out 6-10 weeks.
The teammate? Reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali. Safe to say that he probably won't be on the team much longer!
Ouch!

Enemkpali was released immediately. Gotta love the Jets. Still a circus even after Rex Ryan left.

On that bright side, he could be the kid that saved the Jets from Geno! Hahahaha

I'm sadder about losing that LB honestly, lol. He was a promising pass rusher but also had a history of violence (IE a bar fight in college). Glad they did the right thing and released him immediately, however.
I'm cool with the circus jokes, because this was a very Jets thing to happen. but they shouldn't be coming from any Pats fans after the offseason they're having. Not to mention they fairly recently handed $40M to a serial killer. Just putting that out there before Hoops piles on.
