RE: Mel Farr Detroit Lion star
Although overshadowed by USC's Heisman winner, Mike Garrett, Farr was a great RB at UCLA. He starred on team along with QB Gary Beban (who won '67 Heisman) that beat undefeated, no. 1-ranked MSU in '66 Rose Bowl. Ironically Spartans had beaten Bruins in season opener.

Farr grew up in same hometown, Beaumont TX, as Bubba Smith (but attended different HS) and almost followed Bubba to East Lansing.

After retiring from Lions he became successful Ford dealer, a leader in Detroit's black and business communities.
