RE: (C-USA content) ODU to delay paying C.O.A. stipend
To think - All this started over the request for a few dollars so scholarship athletes - who are forbidden by the NCAA to hold part time jobs (because some boosters abused the practice) - could have walking around money for dates or trips home. The actions by the NCAA to stonewall on the issue led to law suits, federal courts and now COA stipends of thousands of dollars.
A little common sense and empathy by athletic authorities could have settled this years ago much more cheaply.

College administrators seem to conveniently forget that, in addition to CUSA giving schools $150K/yr to assist conference schools, the NCAA is giving G5 conferences $12M/yr to spread among their members to assist, as well. For CUSA, thats an additional $800K($950K total) for each team(excluding UAB, of course)...
BTW...FIU has set its COA at $6,000/yr...CRAZYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still waiting for something to be produced to show exactly how this is going down, and I'm pretty curious how the institutions in power conferences are going to try and cheat the formula or whatever.
