FRAZIER'S CORNER: Sharing the Good News and Numbers

Lots of number$ being put out to show progress.

Right now season tickets renewals are at 80% and "over 400 new season tickets sold to date, we are already 45 percent ahead of last year’s pace."

At the bottom is a link to the Annual Report.

http://grfx.cstv.com/photos/schools/niu/...t14-15.pdf

PG 4 has what looks to be an updated rendering of the East Stands Premium Structure.

What I would like to know is how many of our season ticket holders have full season tickets as opposed to the mini plan? For new season ticket subscriptions, what is the percentage of full season vs. mini season?

RE: FRAZIER'S CORNER: Sharing the Good News and Numbers
Assuming Frazier is still here, I'm interested to see what kind of mini plans he comes up with when BCS teams start coming to Huskie Stadium.

For arguments sake, lets say every home schedule ends up like this years. 6 home games with 2 being weeknights.

Plan A:
1. Home Opener (most likely)
2. Homecoming
3. Other Saturday game

Plan B:
BCS team
Weeknight Game 1
Weeknight Game 2

Usually the weeknight games are against the best MAC opponents. This year, it's WMU and Ohio. Likely one of the games will be against Toledo or WMU for the foreseeable future. So with plan A, you get all Saturday games including the home opener and homecoming.

But with Plan B, you do get stuck with the weeknight games, but even still you get the BCS game at home (on a Saturday, most likely) and WMU/Toledo.

2016 still isnt set yet but...

2017 home games
USF (Home Opener)
BC
EMU (likely Sat and homecoming)
MAC East (likely Sat)
WMU (50/50 weeknight)
Ball St (50/50 weeknight)

Honestly ESPN isn't going to be high on NIU in 2017 because we will have a 100% new QB and most of our OL so we will be picked to be WAY down. So because of that we could easily only have 1 weeknight Nov home game.

I'm pretty sure our QB in 2017 will have played the position before.

It will take a few years of NIU being bad before they drop off of the primetime schedule completely. I will say though, it might help attendance if they do drop off ESPN, even with a not very good team

I believe its true though. Attendance has almost shown no correlation to the record of the team though. Having the game on Saturday would probably outweigh the quality of the team in terms of attendance. History tells us as much

Take 2 scenarios, which scenario has a higher total attendance

NIU coming off a 11-1 season with 3 Saturday games the following season
NIU coming off a 7-5 season with 6 Saturday games the following season

Right now obviously the not as good team with a more accessible schedule would dominate. Im not saying its a great thing, but its where we are at. Maybe this is the biggest argument for NIU not being in the bigger conference discussion. In one way I don't blame fans for not coming out to weekday games given the inconvenience of it, but at the same time if you truly are looking at that next level, you would hope you have a fanbase that would. Its a tough situation, hopefully the non-conf upgrade changes mentalities of fans.

Ive decided a new standard in my mind when NIU football has truly arrived in terms of a fanbase, when we don't have to ask on a Labor Day weekend "Will the students be going home that weekend", when an opening game at home vs an FBS team on a Saturday is a guaranteed sell out or near sell out. Im sorry but this football team deserves opening day sell outs on a Labor Day weekend, I don't care how good the parties are in Schaumburg.

I think the expectations form ESPN for NIU in 2017 will be very close to the expectations from the 2012 season.

We had 1 Nov home MACtion game vs Toledo and only 1 away on Black Friday. We even had 1 Saturday game in November in 2012. For 2017 I see 1 Nov home MACtion game (vs the preseason expected best between WMU, Ball St, EMU or MAC East) and 1 away MACtion game (Toledo).

Remember though that Nov 2012 game on a Saturday still didn't attract that many people.

I think maybe I was misunderstood, what I meant to say was, I think attendance would be better for NIU right now if they played an exclusive home schedule on Saturdays, even if they have a not so good team. For the average NIU fan, convenience trumps quality of team right now.

Correct. Athletics used to give away tons of tickets for the midweek games. I think they were at the point of dropping them from helicopters.
