You are correct that the add is being made mainly with Olympic sports and the main reasonthat a new school will be added. But you are incorrect in the fact that Coastal would be added and have to leave their football team in the Big South. Under Sun Belt bylaws if Coastal is added as a member of the Conference they could move their fooball team when ever they want to just like at this time either UTA or UALR could announce that they are starting a football team and will be playing inside the Sun Belt. Coastal would not join the Sun Belt if they could bring their football team into the conference.

I'm sure he meant to imply "..., which will remain in the Big South for now."

I doubt any Coastal admin or boosters would be satisfied with moving all non-fb sports from the Big South to the Sun Belt and then leaving football at FCS for the next decade.

They'll most likely get to work right away on announcing a capital project for expanding the football stadium and a master plan for getting football spending to top Sun Belt levels, then soliciting donations and perhaps a new student fee to make it happen.

So sounds like the consensus is actually for just adding Coastal as non-fb, at this time.

That gives them 12 full members, with three not sponsoring FBS football. Plus two football affiliates.

What's the next move, after that? Kick out Idaho and NMSU, and add Missouri St and EKU?

CC upgrades FB and comes aboard for 11. NMSU goes full member. Idaho stays until someone that fits in the west is ready to join, hopefully Missouri State. Idaho goes and you add one more to get to 12/14.

Texas State
NMSU
Arkansas State
ULL
ULM
Missouri State

USA
Troy
Ga So
Ga State
App St
CC

UTA and UALR as Olympic only.

So just playing devil's advocate:

- App St to Coastal is about 284 mi (using the fastest route)

- App St to EKU is about 267 mi (using the fastest route)

Why not add EKU as the non-fb member to pair with App St, now? Knowing they could bring FBS football online faster?

Could they? That's just an assumption you are making there, even if it is stated as if it was a fact. When the Sun Belt last talked to EKU, it seems that EKU was not ready to move up to FBS right away.

And some would argue that Coastal is a more appealing Olympic sports add in a more appealing market area, so if you'd have a choice between the two as Olympic sports adds, you'd be inclined toward Coastal.

It is an assumption. I based it off stadium size. It might take Coastal five years to get their stadium ready. EKU has a 20k stadium, if I recall. Could be wrong. EDIT: here is a link http://www.wtvq.com/mostpopular/story/EK...zIat8_CIow

It might be a more appealing market for taking a vacation, but I'm not sure it has more TV households than Lexington.

I think it is CC's baseball, basketball and other Olympics that distinguish them from EKU.

That would seem right except the opposite is true.

EKU is tearing their stadium down and starting over.

Coastal just needs to add seating to a new stadium that was built to be expanded.

The EKU stadium plans look good 18-20 k seats with grass berms for overflow.

Lexington does not belong to EKU. It belongs to two groups UK and UK only. In fact Richmond doesn't belong to EKU, that too belongs to UK! And don't let anyone fool you.

UK/Lexington is a liability for EKU, not an asset.

Who is the other school that the Sun Belt will visit is the biggest information from the article.

My bet is NMSU unless JMU has had a change or heart or Missouri State has had one.

I can not see CCU accepting an olympics only invite, the Sun Belt only makes sense for them if football is included.

Good for Coastal Carolina. They have a lot of potential and would be a nice addition to the Sun Belt; the Sun Belt would definitely be getting better in most sports by adding CCU and it makes sense for Coastal Carolina to go FBS.

With little competition in South Carolina, CCU could be an middle to upper G5 school in football. It shouldn't take them long to be competitive in all Sun Belt sports, if they aren't competitive right away. They could really use the Sun Belt as a stepping stone to better conferences.

There is no such thing as an Olympics only member of the Sun Belt.

Let me re-phrase, an invite that does not include their football program (ala UTA or Arkansas Little Rock).

Hard to imagine CCU would even make this statement without an offer pending. Does appear to be EKU, CC and NMSU with Idaho getting the boot.

That would make the most sense, unless they want to hold out hope for JMU or Mo St. to have a change of heart.
