UT claims to be a "prestigous" university
Colleges started making written scholarship offers to football recruits on August 1. It's a pretty big deal. Recruits are posting them all over twitter with great excitement.

I attach an offer from Charlie Strong to a Texas Longhorn recruit.

https://twitter.com/LJ_Humphrey23/status...7496456192

The letter says that UT is "one of the nation's most prestigous universities."

This is true of course, especially if they could spell prestigIous correctly.

The sad part is some intern spent two hours trying to get Word to stop underlining "prestigous" in red.

Maybe his/her intention was to have it underlined in red?

You're right! The words we choose to convey our thoughts and the proper spelling of them mean nothing, especially in academic circles.

Steve Patterson probably wrote the letter while he was busy telling an 8 year old website which is one of the 3 busiest Longhorn sites (if not the busiest) that UT had suddenly discovered they were violating UT's trademark and had to change the name Shaggy Bevo to something else. The cost to defend was not worth it, so they changed to Shaggy Texas. Meanwhile, the AD can't spell.

Should have changed the URL to suckyAD.com. 07-coffee3

They have been given similar suggestions. Oddly enough, they got that notice a few days after posting a description of the site as "the site dedicated to getting Steve Patterson fired." However, that probably really was a coincidence.

Steve Patterson just went copyright & trademark all over ShaggyBevo, UT's #1 fan forum. They had to change their name to ShaggyTexas. And they are hot about it.

UT claims to be a "prestigous" university
I have never been affiliated with the University of Texas, but to me it is a prestigious university. It has been a member of the AAU since 1929. USN&WR ranks it 53rd among all national universities. It has some top-notch business programs. The Center for World University Rankings has it at #32. Forbes also has UT-Austin in its top 100.

From personal athletics experience as a visitor, I believe Texas to be one of the few universities in the United States to pursue the upper echelon of academics and athletics.

UT is also making an international push with the intersection of academics and athletics.

Like I stated, I have no connection with UT, but come on. To suggest it's not prestigious is to view academic institutions with blinders and mid-20th century elitism.

You sir need to replace the batteries in your sarcasm meter. No one is suggesting Texas is not a highly prestigious University, in fact it is because it is so prestigious that the typo describing it has garnered so much attention that it spawned this thread.

All of this is why spelling a word, that very specifically describes the quality of education you can receive at the institution, incorrectly is quite humorous.

It would be funny, I suppose, if it were an actual spelling error.

Typos aren't spelling errors.

But whatever, season's almost here.
