Congrats goes out to The SEC for winning this award which just happens to be handed out by folks working for a Network that only owns Tier 1 rights for The SEC. You certainly cant claim they were biased.
TN is a year away.
LSU/Bama...never underestimate them.
USC: overrated
Oregon: no clue
Sorry, but LSU is a mess and who again is Alabama's QB?

I didn't say LSU and Alabama would be in the playoff. I said don't underestimate them.

Of course, but you can still consider them overrated right now while still not underestimating their ability to win any game they are in.

Maybe Tennessee won't do anything in the SEC this year, but they certainly kicked Iowa's butt in the bowl game.
I was hoping at least one of Iowa and Minnesota would beat the SEC, if not both.

Beating Iowa in this day and age certainly does not lend credence to a team not being overrated. So, obviously this was your elementary school level attempt to troll me. Failed.
Minnesota is getting better, they were not ready yet but they will be. They are having some strong recruiting successes lately.
I wont bother with any hopeful wishes for Iowa until Ferentz is gone. When Iowa gets a youthful coach that is forward thinking and charismatic, that is when Iowa can succeed in today's game.

I wasn't trolling you. Iowa is still an upper level program, in my opinion (one step below elite). Feel free to sandbag all you want, if that makes you feel better.

Nope, Iowa is not an upper level program. It is upper level in terms of the amount of money it makes but it needs youthful energy and edgy offensive game plans in order to compete. Ferentz needs to accept a buyout and/or a promotion to some higher up position at the school. Since Bartz F'd up so badly with that contract, I think he should take on Ferentz as an Assistant Athletic Director so that he has to worry every day about Ferentz basically learning how to take over for Bartz.
But that's just my humble opinion.

Edgy offensive gameplans?
Wisconsin seems to do fine with loading the big boys up front and smashing the defense out of the way. What's wrong with that?
That's the upper midwest style.
The flash in a pan, style over substance, chuck n' duck crap is what southern schools do. No thanks. That's basketball, not football.

Well -- I guess to what you were saying -- it just takes the right coach.
Minnesota's resurgence is due to Jerry Kill and his devoted staff. That's a fact.
And they're certainly not throwing the ball 50 times a game.

The Vols are ranked 25. While I think they can go 8-5, the fact that they squeezed into the last ranking of a preseason poll isn't that outlandish.

They need to do something first. I agree, they have had some impressive recruiting but recruit rankings are not a precise science nor do they mean that a group of recruits will be turned into a top level football program.
What I saw against Iowa was noteworthy but that could have easily just been Iowa making them look good. I think Tennessee should have been ranked 26th and that is what I would have done if I was the Tyrant of College Football but alas the polling getting them one off isn't bad.

This shows the winning percentage from last year.
Marshall at #3.
C-USA has 4
AAC has 5
MWC has 4
MAC has 4
Sun Belt has 2, I added Georgia Southern since NCAA did not add them to the list.
Indpendents 2
Baylor's winning percentage is like 9th.
I counted only the top 50.
Texas State, Appalachian State, Old Dominion, Georgia Southern I did not see listed.

I agree the Vols haven't done a thing save not being awful. Which is why I was quite surprised with the ranking because I figured they'd be closer to 30. But other than making the cut, is there a substantial amount of difference between team 25-30?

Nah, it's all just opinion and doesn't matter. What does matter though is that these preseason polls are carried into the season so it's like watching a horse race where the horses get a staggered start on a straight away.
