There are numerous shades of orange, ranging from reddish to yellowish. I don't know about you but (1) I hate orange for certain reasons and (2) when I stand before TOM III I see a background that can be called gold as easily as orange.

Logo Color Question
I'm not a big stickler for the shades of blue or gray or white or black - but I am a big advocate for NOT removing the leaping tiger from the logo. I don't care if he is gold or orange, I just want him in there. It's what makes the Memphis brand unique and recognizable. And what keeps Tiger hats from being confused with Michigan or any other "Plain M" schools' fans.

None of the athletic logos are mentioned in the brand standards. They are for the University logo only.

That's not exactly a secret - been brought out in these discussions numerous times. My point is, that it is beyond dumb for the athletic department to go its on way and use different colors. Common sense and well-documented research says that consistency is best for brand strength.

Quote:what will really throw GA for a loop is that PMS 280 is not "officially" Tiger Blue; it's just always been used as such because it's easy for printers to match.

Personally, I never liked the term "Tiger Blue" since it is nonsensical - I prefer "Memphis Blue".

Quote:During all the re-branding discussions, PMS 287 has been discussed as the official "Tiger Blue" that both the university & athletics would adopt. No clue if that's official yet, however.

I would not be surprised. I think it's a mistake since PMS 280 blue has already been in the brand standard for about 25 years now. Moreover, before the brand standard was adopted, the official shade of blue had been "Reflex Blue" which was very near PMS 280 and was replaced only because there is no PMS number for that well-known shade. Furthermore, the lighter PMS 287 ("fire blue") is a good deal lighter than intended by the Class of 1912 which chose Blue & Gray to represent reunification of the North & South. Georgetown got it right. UofM is letting the tail (Nike) wag the dog.

Well said. You would think more people would understand that. The same person(s) who approved the cursed floating head, approved the Nike's lighter shade of blue and the replacing of gray with black.

It would be better if our athletic department minded the importance of tradition and brand strength.

It says black is an official color in addition to blue and gray. Is this new, or something you overlooked in the past?

Quote:UofM colors are PMS 280, PMS 423, black, or reversed out of a dark color.

Black isn't new, but was only included to allow trim and text for printed material. None of the examples show black replacing blue or gray to a significant degree.

So Blacks should be relegated to only a background color and the scope of this OFFICIAL COLOR only applies to printed material. While the same rules for Blues and Grays should be strictly enforced to be the only acceptable colors across the board - especially for uniforms and fan memorabilia/clothing.

Confederate Gray Avenger logic.

Your University is not interested in promoting your agenda.

He really only sees the need to be an "Avenger" for Confederate "Gray". The importance of Confederate Gray is an emotional need to keep the memory of his Southern heritage alive. His projection of this felt need onto his favorite school is thus understood. The problem is that any remembrance of the Civil War is now politically incorrect, especially for a State University (see Ole Miss "Rebels"). GA will tell you that the original use of Blue and Gray was an attempt at signifying healing between the North and the South. The "Gray Avenger" is emotionally attached to this story and no logical argument will sway him.

BTW, If true about black now being an official color for the University, then GA - if he is a man of his word - will be considering if he will continue being a fan/supporter of the University of Memphis.

Emotional attachments. Can't live with 'me. Can't live without 'em.

And furthermore, why doesn't this site have a confederate flag icon?

Edit: Black is a great color.
