The official term is now "Autonomy 5", which is less damaging to those of us not in the cartel. It would greatly benefit perceptions if the media would stop using the power term. Powers that be in those conferences intentionally pushed this term from the get go to appear more powerful and that they are the only ones that matter. Words mean things, and they knew this, and thus pushed the term in the media. Now it has stuck exactly as they had planned. The media bought in and now the narrative is the only ones that are powerful are those in these conference. Don't you think they knew this all along. It started out as a narrative to get rid of the BE from "power" status. If they could make the Big 6 conferences a power 5 conference, they could cull the herd.

Make no mistake, the so called power 5 label was planned and was done intentionally by so called power brokers from these 5 conferences to show their self perceived strength over everyone else.

The P5 by any name still smells like a cows fart.

This "power5/p5" nonsense term is so overrated and it needs to stop... "Self 5" is more fitting.

"Cartel 5" seems appropriate.

It's P5 and we still aint...

It used to be AQ conferences. In the new system, the P5 were referred to as "contract" conferences for a short period of time (because they each have a CFP contract bowl). The power conference reference seems to come from the media. Im not sure if any if the P5 commissioners started that term (though I admit its possible they did and I just didnt notice since the term is fairly factual). The first time I remember hearing the "group of 5" or "gang of 5" reference was from Benson (Sunbelt commissioner) immedialtly after an early CFP planning meeting.

P5 is an ESPN term. But I'm cool with calling them the A5.

Does that make us still the G5? Or the non-A5 or B5?

We get 2mil a year from tv....P5 teams get 25mil+/yr. Over ten years we get buried.
