New Big Ten scheduling mandates Power 5 opponents, no FCS foes
Quote:Starting in 2016 the Big Ten will roll out a new scheduling outline for all conference members to follow. In addition to the new nine-game conference schedule, the Big Ten will now officially lock out FCS opponents and ask members to schedule one game against another power conference opponent.

The Big Ten’s move away from no longer scheduling FCS opponents has been discussed openly for a few years now, and now it will be the standard operating procedure. What is slightly new is the mandated concept that one game per year against another power conference opponent will be required. The Big Ten joins the ACC and SEC in requiring its members to schedule one game per season against another power conference opponent.

There's been some talk that the FCS could challenge the Big 10's rule in court as collusion. I'm curious to see if other P5's follow that route and if people in FCS do challenge it.

Exactly. Schools like ND and Michigan always want 7-8 home games. They will never get that with just P5 schools.

Thank you!

If that is the case, then Force H&H, with a Basketball game and 2million, no less.

All the more reason for foward-thinking AD's to be positioning their programs for the future.

I'd love to get to a point in the Sun Belt where all schools ban FCS games. Doubt it will ever happen, but I'd really like it.

I'd love to whoop Purdue, Indiana, Northwestern etc twice with a home and home.

Our AD needs to be on the phone stat.

They won't do home and homes with us. They will pay $1,800,000 like they are us. We are one and dones

All of them might not be able to afford $3.5 million a year in payouts. IU, Purdue, Illinois and a couple other, that aren't at the top of the B1G will be willing to play some 2fer ones.

Wish we would schedule Big 10 teams. Biggest stadiums, biggest payouts. Teams like Purdue and Indiana can be had on two for ones.

So I wonder if Purdue is waiting to see what happens with EKU and the Sun Belt. Right now, EKU is scheduled to open 2016 at Purdue.

IU already plays home and home with some of the MAC schools. Their AD has already stated they can't afford the payout of a one time only game with a G5 school.

Really!? The coach didn't mention a home and home, just said we played Indiana ( IU) in 2018. I really hope that is the 1st game in a home and home. I'm sure IU would love to play down in the recruiting hotbed of GA.
This would be our home game vs a P5 team if it happens. Gonna have to check some future schedules....

Don't think so. They added an in conf game. (one less ooc) and require 1 occ P5 game. Thus only 2 spots available for G5 schools.

Good thing is, with tougher schedules for bottom 1/3 of the league, There may be some lower P5 bowl games not filled.

RE: New Big Ten scheduling mandates Power 5 opponents, no FCS foes
the AD for Indiana cant afford the payout for a game with a G5 school? The Big 10 was the second most profitable conference last year, I believe making over 220 million dollars for its members, and Indiana never goes to a bowl, so all they do is rake in the revenue from the bowl games the other teams play in, without spending any of their own money. What the hell is this guy spending their money on?

Ok checked both GS and Indiana's future schedules and I don't see how we fit in. IF we are playing Indiana in 2018 then they only have one open date left. I just don't see how we fit in to their schedule. Maybe the deal is still in the works. I guess he let it out too early, maybe thought it was a done deal.
