If the format is as you suggest, then Trump does well. If the moderator asks the questions, he does poorly.
I think that should always be the format of all candidate debates. The media types have no business in the spotlight. From everything I've ever read, that's the way Lincoln and Douglas did it in 1856, and I don't know why we would ever do it differently.
