Zimbabweans can't understand why everyone is so upset over 'Cecil the lion'
Business Insider Link

#FirstWorldProblems #WhitePeopleProblems

Excerpt:
"It's so cruel, but I don't understand the whole fuss, there are so many pressing issues in Zimbabwe — we have water shortages, no electricity, and no jobs — yet people are making noise about a lion?" said Eunice Vhunise, a Harare resident. "I saw Cecil once when I visited the game park. I will probably miss him. But honestly the attention is just too much."

It's today's media in the U.S. We don't find out what's happening in other countries, except for sensationalized stuff like this.

Seriously? You didn't know that there were serious humanitarian crises in Africa?

They don't talk about those either, usually. Typical news show of 1 hour: 20+ minutes of commercials, 10 minutes of sports, 10 minutes of weather, and 5 minutes of repeatedly telling you what's coming up next. Most of the remainder is what murders or other crimes happened in the local town/city. You can watch CNN or Fox or something and eventually learn more about some of it, but in a biased way in one direction or another.

Or they could tune out from tv altogether. Here's the thing about 2015, there's literally hundreds of other places to get news. Almost everybody knows that. As an aside, On TV you get the charity commercials and infomercials about Africa enough times that people are well enoigh aware of the problens they face.

The ugly truth is that the lots of people don't give a damn about anybody but themselves or things that affect them directly somehow.

Can't argue with that.

I don't understand this sort of hunting, and when I first heard about this dbag who shot the lion, I was upset too... for a few minutes. There are far worse tragedies deserving of such attention.

But I found this to be another case of over the top, social media faux-outrage. And I think class warfare plays a subtle role here: the hunter is a dentist with enough cash laying around to spend $50K on a "hobby" lasting a week. Much of the anger is about this guy's affluence as it is about the lion, I'm betting.

Zimbabwe made an Extradition Request for the Dentist today. So apparently #LionLivesMatter to someone.

Hopefully this dentist is so far up in northern Minnesota that the Canadians would be the best police force to round him up.

What that person doesn't understand is that lion brought foreign tourists which brings jobs.

While regular citizens there may not care much, the government there is calling for the U.S. to extradite him. Seriously doubt it happens though. I'm sure their government is just using it as an opportunity to get some pretty for their country. I'm sure this will bring in millions in wildlife conservation funds that they can then swindle.

My guess he is talking about specifics of what is happening there. Pretty much the only thing we hear about are stories that can directly affect the US such as Ebola.

The Zimbabwean news has been pretty vocal about all of this. It has them pretty upset down there.

I would hope the US would extradite him.

You would lose a lot of money. I would just hope the money would be sent to the national park for keeping it running.

Oh I do think he should be punished if he was found to be breaking their local laws and own up to it. No issue there.
