C-USA is criticized for not taking basketball seriously.
So, a preseason basketball thread has 14 pages of responses the week before fall football camp starts.
I predict that we'll develop into a solid two-bid conference over the next three years as long as everyone keeps their OOC chips on the table and schedules respectably. UAB and MT turned top six into thunderdome at the end of last season, so I guess that speaks for a tighter race across the board post-Memphodus. The way things are sorting out, the top of the conference will take care of itself. (Gearing up, reloading, or otherwise...) The real concern is getting the back end of the conference back within the Kenpom Top 250 at least.
I don't think you need worry about Southern Miss. We will have about 2 more down years, then we'll climb back up. Lots of momentum around campus these days. Doc is a better coach than most believe, and we will come through this down period.
I'm actually excited for Southern Miss. Once you wade out of the post-Tyndall goo, I think it will be back to smoother sailing. On any given year, that smoother sailing could be a springboard. Time will tell.

I look forward to Southern Miss becoming a 20+ win team again and was impressed with the job that Doc did this past season. While the results might lead one to think otherwise, what I saw was a team that worked hard, and was well coached. He just didn't have nearly enough talent to get consistent wins. Hopefully the recruits down there will give him and Southern Miss a chance much like they have done thus far at ODU for Jeff who came into a program that had just finished 5-25.
I would love to see you guys host the conference tourney sometime soon in Biloxi if Norfolk (ODU) isn't able to host.

I don't know about that. I do like the direction Dan D'Antonni is taking the mens team.
And the women are def going in the right direction. Matt Daniel got the ladies in the WBI last year and had their 1st winning season since 2010. The ladies will be very young this year but very talented. The ladies break down like this:
2 Seniors- Leah Scott, Norrisha Victrum
5 Juniors- Talequia Hamilton (TR yet to play for Marshall), McKenzie Akers, Chelsey Romero, Kiana Evans, Enjonae Chambers
1 Sophomore- Taylor Porter (TR yet to play for Marshall)
8 Freshman- Logan Fraley, Ama Arkorful, Khadaijia Brooks, Kelsey Riley, Shayna Gore, Tana Driver, Madison Morris, Hope Lester
So 10 of the 16 players have yet to step on the floor in a real game for Marshall.
At signing day Daniel had the 51st class in the nation. Because of grades, actions, transfers or other things since signing day Daniel's class is now ranked 47th best in IA.
We have 4 of the 8 freshman that scored 1,000 points or more in HS: Khadaijia Brooks, Shayna Gore, Tana Driver and Madison Morris.
Seven of the eight freshman shoot 73% from the FT line or better.
Six of the eight avged 13 points or more, the other 2 avged 9 points.
Two of the freshman have the scoring record at their HS: Shayna Gore 1,927 points (3rd most by any girl in the state of WV), Logan HS, Logan WV and Madison Morris 1,451 points, Spring Valley HS, Huntington WV.
WV Player of the Year and Gatorade All-American: Shayna Gore.
Anyone that has ever followed Marshall basketball knows Madison Morris's dad, Bruce Morris. Bruce Morris has one of the longest shots made in NCAA history. On Feb 7th 1985 Morris hit a 92'4 inch shot which was later reduced to 89'10 due to the fact that basketball courts at that time were reduced to 90 feet long and the Henderson Center had yet to be reconfigured.
Bruce Morris
The Morris play starts at 25 seconds.
Half of th freshman will already have chemistry with each other. For the past 3 years Logan Farley, Shayna Gore, Madison Morris and Hope Lester have played AAU together with the West Virginia Wild.
