I think USF can win the AAC, assuming Cincy, Memphis, UCF, ECU. Houston, Temple and Navy all drop football sometime in August.

USF could win the AAC, but it is not likely; because the schedule requires USF to play 4 of the conferences top 6 teams; including UCF and ECU. Memphis didn't have to ECU and UCF last year; so they didn't get their customary two annual losses. People keep losing track of that little point.

The way we both played last season, you should be happy that Memphis didn't play ECU.

Average QB this year and I see USF with 5-6 wins. If the QB situation becomes good then I could see 8 or more wins and competitive for title.

We beat one of the co champs at their place 41-17. Before you mention Keil going out, we were already up by three touchdowns when he was injured. How'd you guys do against them again? How about Temple? See, in common opponents ECU had two losses to Memphis' zero losses. You assume that ECU would have beaten Memphis last season. Games vs common opponents say no, you wouldn't have.

...Memphis had one of their best teams in the history of their program last year and split a conference championship with two other teams. Yes, its funny that memphis hasn't beaten UCF or ECU in over a decade and 25 years in UCF's case. Its also funny that as soon as they don't face the two teams they historically lose to they win the conference. But memphis was a much much better team than they usually are last year...

would you prefer Memphis to return to 1-11 and 2-10 seasons?

I mean, after the disaster that was Tommy West's last season, and the Larry Porter 'era', would you not relish every second of a 10-3 season, that included a conference title (even if it was a co title)?

looking at the schedule (Kansas appears to be down next season, 1AA team in Missouri St) Memphis could have yet another solid season this year.

No, I like memphis being a good team, it helps the AAC. I would be very proud of my school if I were a memphis fan after last year.

2014 was the first time since 2007 they even had a winning record, the first time since 1938 they have won 10 games, and the first conference championship since 1971.

There's just a little pent up frustration........

Well alright then.

Btw, Houston and ECU had similar bad luck last season. They both finished with similar conference records and they both lost fluke games on last second plays against UCF.

I think that Houston and ECU might meet for the Championship game this year at TDECU. So take care of the Pirates second home stadium.

Thats not a cakewalk of a schedule, are you sure about that, CyberBull???

The OOC schedule is pretty tough. 3 gimme wins... but the rest is a crapshoot. QB is the key, with halfway decent QB play this Bulls teams should be bowl eligble this season...

Maryland and Syracuse aren't gimme's for usf.

FAMU, UConn, and SMU are the gimme wins in my book.

Apologies, I read it wrong and thought the 3 wins you were talking about were in the OOC schedule.

Sure why not? 04-rock

I like our chances against any AAC team and other than FSU...all OOC are winnable. This is the first time since Skip Holtz's first season where I see a lot of talent at every position, including QB. Our QB position has a BJ Daniels like talent in Q. Flowers. He is just inexperienced but our new scheme of running over 80-90 plays per game are going is built for his strengths. I think the fear of unemployment forced CWT to reassess his scheme and implement an offense conducive to the type of talent on the roster and that he can readily recruit.

Skip Holtz never did tried to build around Daniels strength and that is why he got fired.

I have no idea what our final record will be but I know that we will win more than we lose and that we have competed well against every team in the AAC over the last two years. 05-stirthepot

The AAC is going to be a fun watch this season b/c with a few exceptions every game is going to be competitive due to teams on the rise ...or....teams like Memphis and UCF who lost tons from last year's teams.

IT IS THE LAST DAY OF JULY AND I AM READY FOR FOOTBALL!

Hey, Ill take the wins any way I can get them. Last second brilliance or flukes? Probably a little bit of both. They made for exciting games though.

Geez, Memphis was a good football team a decade ago, which everybody conveniently forgot, as soon as we had the worst 5 year stretch in our history. We were absolutely brutalized on message boards, for years.

Then we finally turn it around in a legit way, not a fluke, and you guys still want to b-i-t-c-h. No Memphis fan is saying we're permanently turned around, or that we are suddenly better than everybody else. We're just happy to have returned from the dead, much quicker and stronger than we imagined. We just hope to sustain it longer this time.

Yet, all we get is more grief, even from our conference mates. Who could blame us for being a bit touchy?

…and USF was an even better team just a few season ago and a program on the rise…until ECU tricked us into stealing their coach…but now everyone makes us sound like we have been losing football games since the late 1800s. (See Rutgers…)

As long as Memphis can keep Fuentes or hire a Fuentes-like replacement Memphis will remain relevant, which is good for all AAC members.

8 seasons above .500 since 1990 (and 2 .500 seasons)

Avg. win total 1990-2014: 4.87

I'm not going to bore everyone with yearly totals but its been considerably more than a 5 year stretch of bad football.

Edit: I just arbitrarily picked 1990 but you have finished below .500 41.1% in your programs history and haven't finished above .500 for more than 3 consecutive years since 1973-1977.

2003-2015 (12 seasons) Memphis is at 61 wins, 5.1 Ws per season, 6 bowls....

not too much better, but still.

I'd love to revisit this at the end of the upcoming season.

There is just a segment of your fanbase (as there is with any school) that needs to come back to earth just a bit......

A solid Memphis is good for all of us (so long as we keep beating you.... 05-stirthepot).

Why are the Memphis fans so defensive about comparative stuff. The poster used Memphis as the example; not me. I explained why Memphis had a good season. That is all, but the Memphis fans are coming out of the woodwork to defend their lucky breaks season (Cincinnati quarterback hurt; beat Temple by a field goal; evaded ECU and UCF; beat BYU without Taysom Hill). Calm down. It is not like I am calling your season a fluke or anything like that.
Lucky breaks? Of our ten wins all but two were by double figures. We were (once again) up by three touchdowns on Cincinatti when Keil went down. We beat BYU without our starting running back. Unlike ECU we BEAT Temple. You can talk all the crap you want, Marv. We are the defending champs in football, not you. We are coming off a top 25 finish in football, not you. You and the Houston fan can put us down all you want but look at it this way, as bad as our football team has been over the past 25 years we have still had more success than either Houston or ECU basketball in the same time frame....
