Simple Question. Kansas?
The sound and the fury is all about Oklahoma maybe possibly wanting to go to the Big XII. President has saber rattled about changes to Big XII being needed.

When the OU to Big 10 topic comes up, Kansas "going there with" Oklahoma is thrown out as an aside.

Kansas from what I can tell hasn't said a thing.

Put your tinfoil hats on folks.

Kansas is the one closest to cutting a deal with the Big 10, OU is hoping to come along for the ride.

Why else would KU and OU be mentioned jointly but OU be the one making noise to indicate interest?

Kansas holds their own third-tier rights and in 2012 they made $6.5 million from third-tier rights. They have a media income stream to help them ride out the settlement of how much they should receive (if anything) out of the media rights retained by the Big XII under the GOR. Conservatively, they bring $7 million in TV value to Big 10 if they defect from the third tier rights plus the value of their road games.

Kansas is a member of the AAU.

I think Kansas is further down the discussion path (which does not equal Kansas being ready to leap) with the Big 10 than OU is, if OU is even in serious talks.

Kansas has a Tier 3 deal with ESPN. Much like the one OU has with Fox.

RE: Simple Question. Kansas?
There'd be somewhat of a sh*tstorm in the state legislature if we moved independently of KSU, particularly if in so doing we were part of a process that caused a loss of prestige to the Big 12. I'm pretty skeptical about any scenario where we move without KSU unless the Big 12 is really imploding otherwise. I can see in that case that if there's only room in a power conference for one state school we'd be allowed to take that spot.

Otherwise, I think we're largely constrained. As others have noted, among other things the lack of a partner institution helped the likes of Nebraska and Missouri make their moves from the Big 12.

But it is outside of the GOR. Now it may have a provision it stays in place should Kansas join another conference but it would toss into Big 10 revenue were that to happen.

RE: Simple Question. Kansas?
You could have begun selling rolls of tin-foil for Kansas speculation immediately after Colorado and Nebraska left the Big XII. Not just the possible PAC 16-link, but forwarding UNL and UCB exit money onward to others in the conference made for the trinity of peace-pipe passing: no enemies made with PAC and Colorado, B1G and Nebraska, or whoever did profit from the passed shares (A&M and the SEC?, Texas and Oklahoma).

And someone from KU said that there wasn't anything binding them and State together. So...hey now.

The B1G's "study" with them, OU, Vanderbilt, and others (anyone ever find out who those were?)...no surprise here to see them named.

ESPN and FOX can trade after Oklahoma decides to go to the SEC.

Boren desires academics. He will take Oklahoma to the Pac-12 or B1G.

The SEC is a better academic conference than the Big 12.

Kansas simply can't compete, they can't even stop 89-year olds from scoring TD's.

KSU and OSU will be just fine. They both have value themselves, and the value of going from P5 to P4 will be more than enough to offset any negatives if they DIDN'T have value on their own already.

The BIG is going to add East Coast schools next. Kansas is a low population state with no added value in TV revenue. Every conference knows the winning formula now and it lies in getting into as many high population states as possible.

Bet not. Nobody in the ACC's looking to get out. Oklahoma and Kansas on the other hand are big properties that're looking for new homes. B1G's going to get who they want..............from the BigXII.

Can't his school be associated with them through relationships that don't manifest on the playing fields? Sending his basketball or baseball team to play Stanford or Michigan has null impact on whether they would be associated academically.

If that's true, then he's pulling for the wrong school out of Houston to join them.

I believe OU's third tier brings in about $5-7 million per year. About he same as Kansas

Being in small markets becomes irrelevant when you're talking about a national brand like Kansas basketball.

By joining the BIG, his school would have the athletic association. All BIG members are also added to the CIC. That brings the academic prestige all university presidents want.

Right now, the next two ACC schools that the BIG covets (UVa & UNC), do not appear to be willing to move. There are no other schools in the EAST that come close to the desirability of these two. That leaves expanding to the West. Mizzu was lost to the SEC and is probably untouchable at this point. KU and OU are the next two logical choices.
