Lady Bucs hit the road
The ladies start a 5 game road trip tonight at Old Dominion. Looks like the next two weeks are going to be an interesting slew of games.

Monday Nov 23rd - at Old Dominion 7pm
Friday Nov 27th - at Eastern Ky 7pm
Sunday Nov 29th - at Elon 2pm
Wednesday Dec 2nd - at UT 7pm
Saturday Dec 5th - at Vandy 2pm

I'm trying to arrange my schedule to make it to the UT game, but I have to catch the others online I guess.

Hopefully we get Tianna back by the UT game at a minimum. I think we at least have a fighting chance at the majority of these games, but the UT game has me super nervous.

Humongous, historical win as the Bucs take down national powerhouse Old Dominion home of superstar of yesteryear Nancy Lieberman!

I'm pretty unfamiliar with women's college basketball, but is this a great win? ODU was picked 2nd in conference USA this year but they've already been blown out by Miami and lost to Richmond.

The ODU women won national championships in '79, '80 & '85 and were national runner up in '97. From 1979 to 2008 they made 28 tournament appearances with some Sweet 16's and Elite 8's in addition to their 6 Final 4 appearances. They have however not made the tournament since 2008.

No clue as to what they have this year.....

The big deal is winning without Tiana - only the gal who controls the tempo, makes the big shot and keys the defense.

Learning to win without her for a few games may be a good exercise and confidence builder for the other gals.

Exactly this. We've got a great group of players overall, but they've depended on Tiana so much for leadership and her overall skill that getting used to playing without her and getting those wins is a challenge. It's one of the downfalls of having a star player like her. When they are out, it's an adjustment. I think they've shown that they have the talent to adjust well and are gaining the confidence to know it themselves.

Now on to EKU Friday to throw down some Kentucky Friend Colonels right after Turkey day. 05-mafia

Cold Shooting Dooms Bucs in 64-41 Loss at EKU

It was like watching the rigged basketball games at the fair. Absolutely nothing went in.

Couple notes:
  • Shamauria rolled her ankle on her first shot of the game & didn't return.
  • 13 points in the first HALF. 03-bored
  • Ladies are still unstoppable in the third quarter. Over-playing and missed shots along with an EKU line of treys at the end were the final nails in the coffin.

On to Elon!

I'm driving home from visiting family for the holiday today. I'm going to have to use my phone's wifi sharing to stream the game. Some call that obsessed. I call it dedication. 03-woohoo

Bucs Let Early Lead Slip Away

It could've been worse.

Defense was not horrible. Offense… couldn't get anything going, especially in the second half. Outscored (massively) in the 3rd for the first time this season.

Elon hit 17 blocks, the new high for D1 women this season. Add 11 points off turnovers (Bucs had 3), 16 second-chance points (Bucs: 10), and Shomari Kendrick fouling out with 1:34 to go, and that'll be a loss.

UT lost to #8 Texas (and their 27-game home court win streak) today, which means while they're definitely "off" this season, they'll be hungry come Tuesday. Yaaay.

EDIT: Just watched Coach E's comments- high ankle sprain (from last game) for Shamauria Bridges, Malloree Schurr sprained one of hers in the game, and Sadasia Tipps probably has a broken finger. We got a pretty beat-up bunch.

Gonna be a REALLY tough game tonight for the ladies.

If the whole team had been healthy, I think they would have done extremely well against the Lady Vols this year. Now, I'm hoping for UT to have a really off night.

Yeah I just hope to see us try to keep it respectable... Going to be a tough one.

We were ahead with about 5 minutes left until half, then UT went on a run and we are down 9 at the half. One of our girls got hurt, couldn't tell who it was from the choppy ESPN3 feed

Mindy McNeese rolled her ankle.

We need to brace these girls ankles or something. What is that, number 4?

They are still playing pretty well overall.

RE: Lady Bucs hit the road
Late to the party, I'm really proud of how the team played against a top-ten team. Shamauria Bridges was on FIRE- sick and injured (she had to throw up between the first and second quarters) and still led the team with 21 points. UT's full-court press was brutal, especillay in the first half, and it definitely caught our ladies off guard. Too many turnovers in backcourt violations and passes (that may have gotten past SoCon defenses) intercepted. The lack of Buc post players was painfully obvious- Rodriguiez stepped up nicely but it was too little too late. McNeese's ankle was stepped on by the UT player defending her and she went down hard. (The UT staff helped take care of her, and she was icing her ankle on the bench for the rest fo the game.)

Apparently Warlick was so ticked at UT's inability to pull away in the first half that she didn't coach the entire second half. I didn't see her off the bench; one of her assistants worked the sideline. Coach E kept at it, and made some nice adjustments in the 4th (faster passes on offense, a nice zone defense that could keep UT at bay until they broke into the key, agian highlighting our limited options at post.

Either way, we played well despite the adversity/injuries/national ranking, etc. Curious to see tomorrow's adjustments vs Vandy.
