After that they can be sold to the general public.

I know that I have attended many events like a Rolling Stones concerts at LF were those seats were definitely sold out and I'll bet that not all of those seats were bought by certificate holders.

I stand ready to be corrected.

According to the letter from the Park Board, the Stadium Certificates are contracts with the city for only football games at Legion Field. Each SC is for regular price (no premiums added) purchase of tickets for two seats in the designated sections - 10 & 11 in the west stands and the corresponding 50 yard line sections in the east stands as well as the Gold Seats - and are perpetual in legal standing. According to the SC contracts, holders have the exclusive right to purchase those seats until the week of the individual game (effectively the Monday before a Saturday game).

That letter indicated that there are 2,500+ SCs so they cover about 5,000+ of the best seats at Legion Field. Due to secondary market purchases, the SCs are now said to be held by about 1,600 persons or businesses (back in the 1960s and 70s, they were being offered in the Classified section of the NEWS for $2,000 to $3,000 each). A major buyer was said to be Crawford Johnson, the Coca-Cola bottler for central Alabama. Perhaps Golden Flake Enterprises bought some as well.

We have been told that UAB has sold some of these seats as season tickets, but if so, it was not legal under the SC contracts, but if no one cares, it would go through. The city would be the one to have a gripe with UAB since it holds the contracts with the SC holders.

Thanks, that pretty much confirms what I have heard in the past and pretty much puts to rests concerns that someone can be arrested for sitting in those the day of the game.

Once the certificate holder loses the right to buy the tickets to the seats by not buying those tickets in time, he/she and the city loose all rights to them. UAB can then sell those sell tickets to those seats and, if it doesn't, anyone can sit in them because they belong to no one.

Oh dear Ford, not this again. I'm leaving work early to find my old UAB season ticket stubs I saved somewhere in my attic.

The only positive to not having football this year is not having the DJ. When Ray Watts dies and descends to the Ninth Circle of Pumpkin Hell, he deserves to have the Legion Field DJ serenade him for all eternity. That is how much I hate Ray Watts.

But how can you hate the DJ that much. He's just doing what he's told.

Sept. 20.

I'll be over in Alabama anyway that weekend because we have a home game. I'm definitely making the trip up 65 on that Sunday to check out the Women's National team.

I've have had four in Section 10 for about 12 years now.
