Windows 10 .... striving to meet parity with Linux from 10 years ago.
It is hilarious to me listening to the "big new features" of Windows 10, since I haven't used Windows other than testing websites in IE in XP and 7 for approaching 15 years now. The features list reads like something you'd see in a changelog for KDE or XFCE a decade ago.
Virtual desktops! A choice to have a start menu or not to! It upgrades cleanly from one version to another! (Alright so Fedora specifically STILL can't do that one....). Window snap assist! Edge ... it's Internet Explorer but rebranded and with less legacy crap! Windows 10: Now achieving feature parity with KDE 2, Firefox 3, and the very first release of Chrome.
And some of the features aren't as good as they sound ... like by default updates are NOT optional. They're getting jammed down your throat like it not. That's good for grandma. Bad if an update breaks your ****. Windows Hello ..... so Microsoft WHO TOTALLY ISN'T BUDDY-BUDDY WITH GOVERNMENT can store your biometric data like fingerprint and iris scan. And Continuum ... because they're too embarrassed to call it "What we probably should have done instead of Windows 8 anyway." And they're STILL trying to make it so you can write one app and use it on Desktop, Tablet, Phone, XBox, Hololens, etc. Something that only sounds good until you both realize how radically different you interact with each and what Microsoft's last attempt to have one harmonious interface was: Windows 8.
And for the gamers ...... DirectX 12 now with game streaming from XBox One. A feature nearly nobody uses anyway, that no serious gamer will ever use due to latency, and that isn't going to be nearly as good as Steam Link. Yay??

It's all about the marketing to the masses, I suppose.
