Penny Hardaway was the last talented ball player to come out of Memphis. If you don't have the talent, a coach is going to give it to you. Why to you guys think Cal didn't recruit Memphis ballplayers?

You either need to rethink, retract, or spellcheck this post.

It doesn’t add up. 03-confused

He was having a great career at Memphis. So why wouldn't he have one UVA? His game will not improve just because he changes uniforms or coaching staffs. It will change when Austin decides it needs to change.

So you are saying his game will only greatly improve if he decides to work hard? At the same time, you said he was already having a great career at Memphis. You think he was already having a great career and can vastly improve on that if he works hard?

Here's the truth: He did pretty well at Memphis. We can debate whether that was because of his raw ability or because the coaching staff developed him.

If "his skills soar" at UVA, it will be because he's in a better system with better players and a better staff. You don't play big minutes on a high major D1 team for two years, transfer, and then greatly improve unless the staff at your previous school was inferior to the new school or because the system at the previous school was a bad fit for you.

Also, how many functional coaching staffs at big time D1 schools lose their best player due to a transfer?

I said what I said and it was clear. This staff is clearly not getting it done and it is time for a change.

If you think AN was NBA ready so be it. He needs to improve if he wants to play in the NBA. He played well his first year and improved the second. The trend was up. He would have continued to improve in Memphis given the work ethic he displayed between FR and SO years. His physical maturing will make most of the difference. His father knows this and hence has no problem with the redshirt.

AN will see more benefit from physical maturing, competing against better, more physical players in both practice and in games than he will from coaching.

I agree with most of that statement. I think he'll get better at UVA because he'll be going up against better players in practice week in and week out. I also think the coaching staff will help him much more than the Memphis staff was able to do. I think Nichols has a lot of raw ability, which is why he was productive here despite the "dysfunctional staff" and the "failing program".

My beef with what Katz said is this: If you are going to tell me that Austin Nichols's "skills will soar" at UVA, then admit you are taking a shot at Pastner. You don't play big minutes for two full seasons at a high major D1 bball program, transfer, and then vastly improve unless the system at your previous school was a bad fit OR the coaching staff at your previous school was inferior to the school you transferred to.

Who really cares what a TV hack has to say? These guys are so corrupted by their agenda's, their opinion should be viewed like that of a 10 year old.

Someone who doesn't want to face the commitment & discipline that would be required playing for Coach K.

His dysfunctional dad wouldn't last 5 mins with Coach K, that's why they turned him down. Austin needs to grow a pair and tell his limp-azzed dad to get a life. If I was him I'd quit basketball & take up lacrosse, that would show him.
