Dorceus. Cooper. Craft. Davis. Clemson transfer Oglesby who they say can flat out fly. Henderson.

Oh, and Lynch has been known to run a few times, LOL.

All of THIS behind a two deep OL that replaced their lone senior OT Bond with two year Louisville starter Mack.

Setting the offensive table with a basic smashmouth ground assault is a GOOD thing.

Outstanding. The last time I was this excited for a football season was going into 2004.

I agree and I think this is why I'm optimistic that we will have more big plays in the passing game year. If the defense plays above their experience level then could be another special year. Will be interesting to see how the team handles last year's success. I feel like this coaching staff won't let them rest on last year.

Gr8 post! I have a suspicion that this year the running game will be DYNAMIC.....So many weapons, so many options.....playbook will be vast. ....Fuente & staff have got to be teeming with excitement; anticipation; "chompin-@-the-bit"

Oh! I'm sorry! That's ME #chompin@thebit

We saw glimpses of this approach last season. I remember especially at Temple when we used an extremely conservative ground game for much of the game until the last possession when the game was on the line. The offense then opened it up & moved right down the field for the winning field goal. A good ground game keeps the defense off the field & keeps the ball from the opponent.

You are not alone. My guess is a sizable majority of posters here (like me) never played or coached games at the FBS or D-1 level and yet some folks, whose job tasks are far removed from athletics, feel more than qualified to make definitive judgements about tactics and strategies employed by professionals. I find it very amusing.

I enjoy watching all our running backs, but I have particular fondness for seeing Cooper bulldoze and terrorize the DB's in his way.

Damn skippy.

Cincinnati can attest to that fact. That 4th quarter drive last year at their crib that chewed up 13+ minutes was 100% running plays. I think it was about 12 runs, the longest was 9 yards. Pure straight up IN YOUR FACE smashmouth, stop us if you can DOMINANCE. The final humiliation for the Bearcats was MEMPHIS CHOOSING to kneel twice inside the 5 in the final 90 seconds.

I URGE opposing defenses to bring up their safeties, though, to avoid getting totally cannonballed by Dorceus, Craft, Cooper & Co.(*) As Smith noted a bit earlier:

Quote:I think this is why I'm optimistic that we will have more big plays in the passing game this year.

Ding! Ding! Ding!

We have a winner....

As defenses bring 8 or 9 up to prevent getting relentlessly pancaked into the field, Lynch will air it out and strike quickly. The WR and TE group is fairly adept at their gig as well. WRs Frazier, Jones, Hurd, Mayhue, Proctor, the aforementioned Craft and Oglesby, along with TEs Cross, Kolodny, and Montiel can do some damage. And they enjoy blocking, too.

I believe we will see a season from Lynch where he has FEWER pass attempts for FEWER completions yet has a HIGHER completion percentage for MORE YARDS and MORE TD passes.

(* = those names sound like a law firm)

He's listed as such but there are plays to run him wide on specific plays.

Exactly the reason I stated that the running game/offense is going to be MORE DYNAMIC!!! backs will be featured in screens/ draws/options that will keep defenses guessing; out of gas;on their heels!
