You guys shouldn't worry about moving to a "P5". The AAC is a good conference. Just win games and beat your chest about AAC pride. I would love for WVU to be back in the Old Big East (pretty much ACC now) and Marshall would be in the American tomorrow if it could.

Well, he's having to do a lot of explaining now after his initial (now apparently) incorrect comment.

44 All Americans, 2 Heisman Finalists, best bowl win %, best home win record. I don't have to talk down to others to try to make Marshall look better.

Brett McMurphyVerified account‏@McMurphyESPN @flugempire they are not expanding. If they do 5-10 years from now it will not be to the west

They want eastern exposure in the more populated regions. Plus get in areas with more bowl games which is eastern.

Well if it's eyeballs BYU has a national following. I can't see that as the whole reason assuming McMurphy's 'sources' have this right.

McMurphy is the Tigerscane of national media. He spews so much bull he gotta be right ever now snd then

Boren already said publicly that the Big 12 contract calls for 2 additions being paid for -- in other words, if the payout is $20 million per team, Fox will pay out an additional $40 million for 2 additions. So what you are saying is simply not true. It has also been speculated that a conference championship game is worth $20-30 million per year, so adding 2 teams really costs the Big 12 nothing in the short term.

Tulane is the fat goofy kid who gets a bid to the fraternity to help raise their GPA and because his rich dad has a lake house.

Southern's basketball program is about to get curb stomped by the NCAA infractions committee.

Marshall is happy where they are. They make it clear everyday that CUSA is as good as the AAC. No reason for them to leave.

Everyone wants to think they are in charge but ESPN and Fox will tell them who to pick.

And I imagine ESPN and Fox are focused on BigTen TV contract now....at least strategizing phase.

Which may be partly what Disney's cutbacks are about.

And maybe getting B1G to 16 are ideas ESPN and Fox brass are hoping for.

And maybe this all involves SEC and Big12????

Maybe ESPN and Fox aren't getting a good enough TV return from a few Big12 fanbases' TV sets?

Maybe they'd like Big12 to be a cheap P5 conference while beefing up their return per team on the SEC-16, BigTen-16 and maybe PAC-14?

Maryland got out of the ACC and ACC had a GOR, right?.....but I can't see Texas, say, going to the BigTen and having less TV revenue than the other 14 members for a couple years....unless a move to the BigTen beefs up their LHN contract.

RE: BXII's Official Expansion Committee
This seems a lot like how the old Big East fell apart.

While the BigEast was talking openly about who to add to stabilize the league, the BE old guard were grandstanding in support of expansion while at the same time planning their exit strategy to the ACC, B1G and B12.

It's like déjà vu all over again....

OU and UT are gone as soon as the GOR is done. only question is if B12 leftovers and Top AAC will be enough to survive and be considered a P5 conference?

RE: BXII's Official Expansion Committee
Texas brought home $25M from the Big 12 last year. Plus $15M from the LHN. They made more money than anyone last year. Oklahoma got $8M for their 3rd tier rights. They made as much as anyone in the SEC or Big 10.

Those two schools are not getting cash whipped like the ACC schools are. They have an incentive to keep the Big 12 together.

In fact, Texas and OU would like to preserve the Big 12 as long as it is perceived as strong enough that it's champion deserves to make the playoffs. As long as recruits consider it a premier league and they don't start losing a bunch of kids to leagues like the SEC.

That's the key. Those two want a league they can dominate and control. They want it respectable, but not too difficult. Texas in particular has no interest in joining a meatgrinder league like the SEC where they become one of many football powers.

That said, if and when the Big 12 becomes a second class citizen in the eyes of the media and recruits, Texas and OU will leave in a heartbeat.

That's when you do have to also make a run at BYU and Boise......but only if neither tries to come in swinging their d*** like they are Texas or something.

The ACC signed the GOR agreement five months after Maryland's announced its move to the Big 10 (link). Maryland was only subject to the exit $50 million exit penalty (it ended up settling for $31.4 million in withheld revenues).
