That is possibly true when he was in high school...But he obviously didn't believe that any longer when he got to college.

Yes men were probably his problem in HS...It is a crime that he did not develop a shot when he was much younger. I know at the time he was scoring with ease, but a true advisor would have told him if he could shoot he would be 100x more dangerous.

Ya, the D League salaries are in the $25,000 to $30,000 a year range... So, good for JJ for getting paid good money to play basketball. I still think he will eventually find his way into the NBA, much like Patrick Beverley did.

Well this isn't true at all.

You are so right, only the people on this board who claim Pastner can't coach thought he was a sure fire lottery pick.

Pastner can't coach.

Was an issue his entire career at U of M. If not for his Grandma he most likely would be still listening to them.

RE: Joe Jackson to play in Korea - make about $140K
Once JJ truly learns how to run a team, he will at least have a chance. Coming out of HS, he was a me 1st player, DS was still on the staff, and I recall an interview where he pretty much stated that the biggest problem that the team was having, was that the players didn't want to listen to anyone, and he chuckled that he had been were they were trying to go, but they thought that they already knew it all.

Plus I remember JJ making the statement that he had been successful his whole life playing a certain way, and I got the feeling that he was frustrated because Coach was trying to get him to be a PG 1st. Not to mention the bozo's that would call in to the radio stations complaining that the team wasn't letting Joe get his. He is a gifted player, way more talented than Delly that plays for the Cavaliers, but he brought something to the table that Joe doesn't posses, physical and mental toughness. But I hope that JJ realizes his dream of making the league.

That's exactly what I think when I hear someone say that Joe is a shooting guard.

I hope he gets sound investment advice. Dollar cost averaging investing, beginning in your 20s, is a great way to accumulate wealth.

Good write up for jj. Get that money Joe!

Fascinating article about Korean BB.. and I'm pretty sure JJ will be smart enough not to get dismissed for stretching during the Korean national anthem.

Anyway, JJ caught the attention of the Korean head scout, Kimm, right away in the tryouts...

It was early, but one player had grabbed Kimm’s attention.

“This guy,” Kimm said, pointing at a name on the roster. “Joe Jackson.”

Jackson, 23, was coming off a solid season with the Bakersfield Jam of the N.B.A. Development League after a four-year career at the University of Memphis. A 6-foot point guard, Jackson knew he was at a disadvantage. Most teams wanted larger guards, so Jackson tried to play big. In his first game, he scored 21 points, shot 9 of 13 and rose for a dunk that left several team officials cheering from their chairs."

RE: Joe Jackson to play in Korea - make about $140K
Great for JJ. What this article also indicates is just how much more opportunities there are to play pro basketball and how it's impacted college BB.

In 1985, when we went to the Final Four, the NBA had 23 teams and an 11-man roster.

23 teams*11 men/team = 253 jobs in the NBA.

Today, there are 30, with 15 man rosters.

30 teams*15 men/team = 450 jobs in the NBA.

In 1985, there is NO way anyone could play professional basketball in Korea or Japan or China. Plus, the Euro League was still playing pretty crappy wages with bounced paychecks, etc..

The # of good paying pro BB jobs has exploded and I don't blame anyone for leaving early and 'ending up' making $145k/season when you're 23 years old.

Hate to say it, but the 1985 Final Four had AMAZING talent AND many of them were upperclassmen.
