Exclamation CBS Sports Releases its G5 schedule
Home games by G5 conference:

MWC (22)
AAC (20)
CUSA (7)
MAC (6)

http://www.cbssportsnetwork.com/sites/pd...e_2015.pdf

It looks like CUSA is on its way out of CBS College Sports once the contract is up.

Out of CUSA's timelsots 4 of their games are Thurs/Friday which seems to fit with the MAC's willingness to play non-saturday with another 3 saturday games.

The MAC for next season has 3 Saturday games and 3 non-Saturday. I could see CBS Sports trying to play matchmaker with some early season televised games like Toledo @ BYU.

Seems like ... you don't sign a broadcast deal to hold onto 6-8 games and franchise out the rest. And, after all, the American is a slightly upgraded version of the CUSA that CBSSN signed up for.

RE: CBS Sports Releases its G5 schedule
It's math.

ESPN bought the whole banana of AAC for $18 million. They can license AAC games to CBSS for less than CBS is paying CUSA per game. ESPN cost recovers part of its investment and CBS gets 3.5 hours of programming at a lower cost. Even if the ratings for CUSA were better and commanded a higher ad rate it would still be unlikely to show on the balance sheet as being as profitable.

If say Fox buys the entire CUSA package, chances are they price CUSA games to CBS at a rate that is more profitable for CBS.

ESPN is using the same strategy with the MAC.

AAC as a conference has 15 games.
Navy is still under their own contract with CBS which is why all their 6 homes games on the CBSSN.

Very expected for C-USA. Think you'll see ASN take an even bigger role in C-USA football next year. Thursday night games on ASN are being discussed.

Huh? MACtion isn't going anywhere, CBSSN is simply buying a handful games from ESPN that would've been stuck on ESPN3 otherwise. The worldwide leader will still broadcast most of our November weeknight games, don't you worry.

Yeah. AAC games are limited to 15 max. CBS took the max.

RE: CBS Sports Releases its G5 schedule
If FOX, NBC Sports and/or ASN picks up the slack for CBSSN pulling out I'd be pretty happy with losing CBS. All our games would be on expanded basic (meaning anybody can flip on the game and watch it without even trying).

I think most providers have CBSSN on the expanded sports tier package where only hardcore sports fans (gamblers lol) and fans of AAC/MWC/CUSA and now MAC, are likely to pay extra for it.

With MAC football, outside of the rivalry games and whomever is the best team in the MAC that year the product just doesn't have potential value.

A lot of the best teams in the MAC don't even play each other during the regular season. It has been years since Ohio and Toledo have played. NIU vs. Toledo, Ohio vs. BGSU are always in the Midweek ESPN package. Buffalo is a good market for the MAC and its best games are midweek ESPN. If a school is hot like CMU was for a few years it was showcased on the midweek package.

MAC basketball is a different animal. First every school plays each other in the regular season and most play twice. That creates plenty of opportunities to pair the best schools for TV. Secondly, midweek is a good time slot for basketball while the MAC will only allow it in the month of November in football. Third, without regard to record MAC schools in basketball will almost always put up a tremendous fight. There is no given that a MAC school is going to win when on the road.

Its the MAC CBS basketball games that are exciting because unlike a lot of the Midweek football games there is a guarantee of people in the seats. Students will always trek to a basketball arena to be on a national telecast.

ESPN got tired of Toledo beating Ohio. That's why we don't play. Plus Toledo doesn't play BYU this year.

Ohio has only played Toledo 3 times in 11 years under Frank Solich.

Each time was an Ohio loss but never by more than single digits. They've been very competitive games.

Ohio this season closes the year with NIU. They have a chance to beat NIU to close the season sending both them and Toledo to the MAC Championship game where the opportunity exists to beat Toledo on a neutral site up in Detroit for a very decisive MAC Championship.

Miscounted. 21 American home games.

Footnote: Navy home games are not yet part of the main American TV deal. Navy has its own deal with CBSSports that expires after the 2017 season.

http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/writer/dennis-dodd/21913073/navy-to-retain-rights-to-home-games-through-17-in-new-big-east

So ESPN sublicensed 15 games to CBSSports, and CBSSports will televise 6 Navy home games under its contract with Navy.

ESPN's main contract with the American calls for at least 28 games to be broadcast on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU. About 10-15% of the home inventory can be streamed on ESPN3 (usually the FCS games). The rest will be sublicensed to CBSSports (max 15 per year) or shown on ESPNews.

http://mattsarzsports.com/Contract/GameL...bUc8FyPqRI

Exposure wise, the American deal is fabulous.

Compare last year. Remember the American had 11 schools vs 12 for the MWC:

ABC
MWC - 1 (title game)
American - 3

ESPN
MWC - 3
American - 6

ESPN2
MWC - 7
American - 7

ESPNU
MWC - 7
American - 13

ESPNews
MWC - 3
American - 14

CBSSports
MWC - 23
American - 15
