Should the Big 12 expand? Coaches weigh in

lol. All these things, every day I pray.

If a 4 super league scenario happens with one P5 going away you do realize that in all likelihood no G5 teams "move up" to anything that is significantly better than the status quo? Wishing for any of the 5 to fail is wishing for your own exclusion.

You have any idea how your gor works? Benefit to the TV partner(s) or the schools? If / once some teams leave does the same payout continue for incoming teams that replace them? I can see some opportunity for a continued P5 depending on how many are left behind and the continued payout.

1- GOR gives the rights to the league, who then deals with the networks. Short of buying off the remaining teams (costly by networks) or by dissolving (need to place 75% or more elsewhere, maybe all to avoid lawsuits) I don't see a good way around it. The twitter rumor from Flugaur has some pretty big holes in it. The league would still be paid for departing members and could add as they wish as what is the network gonna do? Tv simply can't say we want out of the contract when all prior inventory is still there and accounted for. The rights remain with the league due to the GOR.

2- The payout continues to the remaining teams regardless of additions as long as they remain a conference and legal entity unless I'm missing something. Honestly nothing is stopping the leftovers from getting paid for the original 10 and THEN going to market with the tv rights of any additions.

3- Still it's a band aid in that scenario. After the playoff contract is up the P4/G6 line likely gets drawn in a way that excludes the orphans and the next tv deal is worth a ton less. As I said, not significantly better than status quo.

How many school votes, if you know, does it take for the Big 12 to disband? I can see 5 teams leaving for other P5 conferences but voting to disband the conference first to avoid gor / serious litigation problems. Also, if the gor rights are with the conference - it's makes the Weiss tweet harder to understand.

My understanding is 75%, so 8.

Baylor coach repeats that he favors expansion if the money stays the same.

“Let’s go,” Briles said. “If we can keep the same money, and the dollar bill runs it, but if we can keep the same money we’re giving our universities, I’m for it.”

Simple enough --- the TV money stays the same and don't the new schools like TCU already receive a reduced payout, for a term, for bowl money and NCAA credits?

And Baylor's.

Or Wake Forest if things broke the right way.

Either way how would a P5 breaking apart get you into a true power league?

Texas, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are sure things. West Virginia would be almost sure to the ACC if they decide to do anything. Kansas is being talked about to the Big Ten. None of the other programs will land anywhere.
