Brother Junipers
Coming into town over the weekend, is Brother Junipers still worth going to? Best time to get there on a Sat or Sun?

RE: Brother Junipers
Food is still good but there are breakfast places everywhere that give it a run for its money - stone soup cafe, tart, and others. I've heard for several years that they will eventually close because the kids don't want to take it over even though most work there.

Brother Junipers is still really good. Good suggestion on Stone Soup in Cooper Young though.

Yes they are still there and the crowds are bigger on the weekends. To avoid a long wait time, get there before 9 AM. The place stays at full capacity from 9 to closing time. There can be up to a 1 hour wait to get a table. So you could say it is one of those places nobody goes to anymore because it is always crowded. Voted "Best Breakfast" for the last 15 years. I suggest you call in you reservation if you are not going to get there before 9 and be sure to tell them when you expect to arrive. If you have a large party you need to call in a day or two ahead. They have only 1 big table for 12, and two tables to seat 6. I highly suggest you purchase 1 or 2 jars of blue raspberry spreadable fruit to take home. And by all means DO NOT put any on a bowl of vanilla ice cream. You will hate it and you will be pissed at me for life.

I heard that Another Broken Egg Cafe in E Mem is really good. It's in the Park Place Mall next to Wang's.

Tamp and Tap is one of the best breakfast places in the city. It's downtown.

Tamp and Tap is outstanding for lunch as well. The sandwiches are great. So it Cafe Keough on Main St. downtown.

excellent coffee too. There's another one opening in the poplar ridgeway area.

The folks that brought in seasons 52/capital grille met at tamp and tap to discuss the opening of those places and were so enamored with tamp and tap that they financed the one going in out east.

Is that the same Another Broken Egg as in Destin?

And is The Blue Plate on Poplar still good?

Yep, it's a chain. I've eaten at one in Tuscaloosa and it was pretty good.

There are Another Broken Egg locations all over the South. Dunno how this one is, personally.

Had to stop going to Blueplate because the service was always so horrendous. Place got gross, too.

If you can catch Hog & Hominy's brunch I would definitely recommend that over any other place. Porcellino's next door is very good too. Mainly coffee, pastries and the like for breakfast. Very good, unique take on a chicken biscuit.
Cafe Eclectic (midtown location) is always great. Muddy's Grind Shop is another really good bet if you're just looking for coffee and something light like biscuits, muffins or scones.

I wonder if it has anything to do with The Broken Egg in Sarasota.

I never did have a good experience at the Blue Plate on Poplar. The one on Court Square has always been pretty good.

Cafe Eclectic is very good, very fresh food made from scratch, good breakfasts. There is one on Highland and one across from Snowden School.

Is Porcellino's open for dinner? I ate tonight at Hog and Hominy for the third time. The first time, I absolutely loved it, esp. the open kitchen, watching the bartender put so much love and attention into the special mixed drinks, the very interesting and creative food, the total "Italian family" feel, and the nice patrons. The second time was not quite as attentive maybe because they were slammed, but still good. Tonight recreated my first experience: truly amazing service, unique atmosphere, just fun to be there. And they make their own Bloody Mary mix. It's so good, you know that right off. Try the collard greens.

I like both Brother Junipers and Bryant's, but I don't think either is good enough to stand in line for.

I think the food at Three Little Pigs on Quince is just as good as Bryant's, but you don't have to deal with the sh!tshow.
