I'm a homer sometimes too, but that position is patently absurd.

Are we talking football or all-sports? There are some terrible football teams in the AAC: USF, Tulane, SMU, Uconn, Tulsa, Memphis (traditionally), Temple (traditionally). Basketball is pretty salty though. I guess you put a lot of stock into UCF, ECU, Houston, Cincinnati and Navy? Those look like CUSA teams to me. Didn't CUSA finish with the stronger football league last year?

Yes, and the SunBelt was stronger in football than C-USA the year before. So, what's your point?

That the AAC is not heads and tails better than the SBC or CUSA like most posters are making them out to be?

Yeah. I'd like the Belt to merge with the NFC South too.

Those people are absolutely delusional.

Hey, I said that! Why is that delusional?

It is delusional for the same reason that a CUSA member would say it is delusional for an SBC fan to say that the SBC should merge with CUSA; the AAC is now made up mostly of teams who were desperate to get away from the teams now in CUSA.

There's a huge, huge difference between schools like SMU or Houston with regards to their past conference affiliation and Navy's history, or even East Carolina's on field success or UCF's recent success in a major bowl compared to the C-USA lineup. The only thing that comes close is Southern Mississippi or the Hayden Fry-led NTSU's of the '70's.

There is no difference top-to-bottom between C-USA and the SBC.

Rice can match SMU and Houston's history. I would match La Tech and Marshall with ECU's and UCF's success. UCF is a very young school, but does have that access bowl over these 2, but Tech and Marshall have both won multiple national championships in lower levels. ECU hasn't done much but they are consistently strongish. I would match Southern Miss with Navy. The difference isn't huge, imo.
