Yep, our current POTUS proved that.

Same Americans. The game is to be sold and not told. I think Bishop Don Magic Juan said that.

Didn't Carson surge to a big lead last time? In fact didn't those outlier candidates in the GOP take turns "surging to big leads" last time, only to drop back into insignificance every time. Trump will be crushed when the GOP establishment puts a little money and effort into it.

But none of them had the game of Trump. Nobody is going to talk him down.

They will reduce him to the also ran category in due time. But until then it will be very entertaining.

The problem for Republicans is that is all Trump is - an amusing game. The way this will shake out is that the radical conservatives in the GOP will be exposed for what they are. Despite their derisive use of the term to describe the rest of their party, they are the true RINO's, not the GOP establishment.

It's very true, but I don't want a democrat being able to be elected just because they can play clips from the republican debates and sit back while the majority of americans vote democrat in disgust. I want parties which promote actual policy, and actually give me a choice.

Sometimes I feel like Rush Limbaugh is a closet liberal. He just keeps pushing the party more and more to the edge.

That's the Democrats wish. But in reality, it will just make for a shorter race for the serious candidates. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Its way too long now.

Really? Trump just eliminated Graham. Whose next?

You say that like it's a bad thing for real conservatives.

Liberal Lindsey never entered the race to win the office, he entered because he felt at the time he had to secure his next job.....either as a VP candidate or a Cabinet position. He knows full well the only reason he's been in the Senate this long is nobody worth a damn has run against him in the Republican primary and that was going to change in 2020 because Nikki Haley term-limits out of the Governor's office in 2019 and she has nowhere else to run. She isn't going back to the State House, she can't beat Joe Wilson for her home House District, and she isn't going to run against a very popular Tim Scott. Prior to capitulating to the leftists on the Confederate flag issue she would have beat Lindsey handily in a primary race and probably still would beat him outright and he knows it.

It's essentially the same plan Mark Sanford had before he ran off to Argentina chasing some strange and ruined it. It would likely have been a closer race between Sanford and Graham because Sanford made a lot of enemies within the state GOP in his eight years in Columbia, but he probably would have pulled out a win over Graham as well.

Eliminated implies Lindsey was a serious threat to win it. He never was.

And personally I hope Lindsey stays in ... exclusively so he can utter something to piss Trump enough into having Trump launch a campaign to reveal Lindsey is in the closet. THAT ... THAT would ruin Lindsey. Politically. For the remainder of his lifetime.

RE: Trump surges to big lead in GOP presidential race
I have thought about the Trump phenomenon and the reason why he is doing well is... Trump is an alpha.

- He doesn't rely on the Washington hierarchy, requiring beta servitude to organizational superiors until it is "his turn"
– He reframes his opponents’ attacks.
– He goes on the offense, never allowing himself the womanly comfort of the defensive crouch.
– He never apologizes. Especially not when his accusers are such gratuitous phonyfucks.
– He is socially savvy, and knows how to speak to the common man.
– His upgraded third wife is a hottie. And not just “for her age”.

Yeah, he's checking all of the boxes. Plus nobody is quicker on their feet than Trump. Christie might have a shot at the knock out blow but I don't see it.

Moderate republicans are your only chance to win. Even the most conservative people in this forum agree that the country has become left of center. You can't win with a "real republican".

Your only chance is a RINO.

You are very thoroughly disconnected from the reality of poster's opinions here and the country at large.

Asked generically .... the country leans libertarian.
Asked specifically .... the country is moderate socially but leans conservative fiscally.
