GOP candidate slams McCain for getting captured
http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post...m/?hpid=z2

Quote:"He's not a war hero," Trump said. Sarcastically, Trump quipped, "He's a war hero because he was captured." Then, he added, "I like people that weren't captured."

At some point he'll go too far, like making fun of Reagan's Alzheimer's or something like that.

RE: GOP candidate slams McCain for getting captured
My cousin was his squadron commander when he was shot down. McCain is not invited to squadron reunions. I have heard numerous suggestions that McCain was a pain in the butt in the squadron and was in fact disobeying orders when he was shot down. I don't know for sure, all I know is what I've heard.

Democrats ridiculed both Reagan brain issues and McCain's inability to lift his arms above his head and called him crazy all the time.

now they are all indignant because Trump talked trash back. It was McCain who started talking trash. Why do people have to bow down to him? He's had a cushy life since getting back to the US.

RE: GOP candidate slams McCain for getting captured
The only thing I disagree with here is that Donald Trump has no intention of ever becoming President. He's running to draw attention to himself, and to spark debate. Every comment he makes is akin to political suicide, but he's smart enough to know that there is a segment of the population that agrees with him, and another segment that enjoys watching for what he's going to go after next.

At some point down the road, he'll pull out of the election, hoping that he's sparked debate within his own party or nationally on at least one issue that he wants changed. He'll then return to his life as popular as ever.

Trump is here for entertainment quality. And he has always been good at that.

He's working for Hillary. There is no other explanation for his stupidity.

There is one way Trump could destroy the GOP's chances this election. (He won't win the nomination, regardless what early returns say) That would be if GOP leaders continued to attack him with rhetoric about him having no place in the party. Trump is just crazy enough that he could actually separate from the party and run as an independent, and he's just radical enough that he'll steal a lot of votes that would normally go to the GOP candidate.

If I am Jeb Bush or Scott Walker, that is my biggest fear. That Trump turns independent and several on the far right, who would normally always vote for me, turn around and vote for an independent candidate. The numbers could be strong enough to give Hillary a win in one or two states she normally would not win, which could turn an election around.

Why isn't Trump's name in the title of the thread?

RE: GOP candidate slams McCain for getting captured
The best thing for the other Republican candidates to do is just ignore the P's out of him. But he's a troll and people can't ignore him like we can't ignore trolls on message boards. The Reps need an ignore button and they need to click on it. If the media wants to jab at the candidates with questions about him just tell them to ask him, that he's the one making those comments.

Like when I was a kid and I'd come home crying because someone beat me up she would ask me, "and who said for you to go there? Go back and get another whipping". Same way with them, don't go looking for a beating.

It is brutally honest. A war hero does something amazing and brave. The act of being captured is not hero material in itself.

I agree with Trump. It's time to get real and speak the truth, even if it is upsetting for some to hear.

The "hero" mentality in today's America sickens me. Every teacher is a hero. Every nurse a hero. Every person in the military is a hero. The truth is that isn't true, and we all know it.

In a way I agree with you. My sister in law is a JAG for the Army and was just promotes to major. She has been on both the prosecution and defense end. I've heard a lot of stories that revolves around molestation and child porn. Those guys are no hero's in my book. I believe that the vast majority are good guys but make no mistake there are plenty of them are scumbags.

You know I saw an article somewhere (forget where) that showed the candidates on a "LEFT --- CENTER --- RIGHT" spectrum by analyzing their positions...

Donald was the most leftist GOP candidate. He wasn't even in the Center category, he was barely under Left. I found it very odd.

There are even more rumors about his behavior in his previous squadron, aboard Forrestal, before, during and after the deadly fire. When your dad's commander in chief of all US forces in Vietnam, there are a lot of rumors.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. You just lost your Republican voting privileges. It is in the 10 Commandments of the Republican party. #10. Military personnel are heroes and should never be spoken ill of.

It's all part of the rnc's/trump's master plan.....there is no doubt about it....

I'm curious why you think his stirring debate is a bad thing (regardless of his sincerity as a candidate)

I think his methodology is genius....if I was worth 4B, I would play it the same way....

RE: GOP candidate slams McCain for getting captured
Quote:[T]he most pertinent part of McCain's heroism [is that by] all accounts, his noisy resistance to everyday humiliations, and his profane outburst at a made-for-propaganda Christmas service in 1968, gave great strength to his fellow POWs. McCain was an inveterate communicator in Hanoi, tapping code like mad to keep his comrades' spirits up and even acting as chaplain when conditions in the prisons started to improve.
