RE: Hall dismissed from BB Team
basketball is a team game. no one can say, physically that a core of boothe, jon jon, stuckey and lauf would be bad. the key is can you maximize what you got, will they play good defense, can a player or two emerge as go to scorers. i can see stuckey being a pretty good ball handling scorer, working a lot of high pick with boothe, and not getting worn out cause rogers can hold his own for 15 min a game. lauf needs to find a way to be relentless at what he does well. stop being so cute with taking charges and just battle for boards, play good position d, and make loose ball plays. boothe seems to divide the fan base. some of us really like his game, others think he's decent but will never be a go to guy. i've always like him. he has the ability to be big time next year if he plays consistently w confidence.

all the freshman will have to earn time. adway is probably gonna split the pf spot with garber more or less. garber will prob start early, but the more productive player will be on the court more later. garber has still yet to play a game as an upperclassman so his time may still come.

knapke has huge potential but we shouldn't plan on him playing a key role this year. navigato has talent and will probably be in the rotation. can he be a good mac player at this point of his development...may need another yr or two.

sanford is gonna be good, really has the whole package except the weight. will struggle against smart power players, but will have moments.

white is kinda like a smoother slightly shorter hall. a guy who is physical and aggressive and does a little of everything

There are still some good junior college guys looking for a school. Also, a few fifth year guys who are eligible right away have not committed. I would not just automatically assume that Hall's scholarship will be banked until next year.

At what point in the year is a player's scholarship guaranteed? Hall is kicked off the team, but is his scholarship revoked? Can he still go to UT for free if he chooses? It's a bit late for him to make other college plans for this fall.

I would say that if he broke team rules his scholarship is revoked as of fall classes.

As with any scholarship, if a code of conduct is broken the scholarship can be revoked. This wouldn't count against UT's 13 total limit for 2015-2016. The issue is with the team already being on campus taking part in on campus workouts and individual practice would a player added this late in the year have much impact on the team this year?

Anyone else notice the article was there yesterday but has since been removed from utrockets.com? Hall is not appearing on the roster, but I wonder why they deleted the article.

The freshmen have to play, especially at the forward position. The current roster shows only Adway and Navigato listed as forwards and Knapke listed as a F/C. Very little depth.

Garber is listed as the backup center, which is where he belongs. Too slow to guard an athletic 6-7 type PF in the MAC. I would like to see him and Lauf show they can score, but we haven't seen it yet. Williams needs to have a big scoring season after last year when he didn't show much progress from his freshman year. Still not sure about Stuckey. Shot 35% from the field last year and 27% on threes. I think Rogers is much more of a driver and passer and will be the starting PG with Mosely as the backup and also playing 2G.

There doesn't need to be a broken rule in order to revoke a scholarship. Scholarships are for one year and can be revoked for any reason or no reason. My question is a different one. At what date is the scholarship locked in? I can't find the answer. Not that Hall is likely to stay at UT without basketball, but I was just wondering.

Sorry to respond to my own post, but I just found the answer on nationalletter.org, quoted below:

"In Division I, institutions are permitted to offer multiyear scholarships. Athletic scholarships may be renewed and the school must notify the student-athlete in writing by July 1 whether the athletic scholarship will be renewed for the next academic year. Individual schools have appeal policies for scholarships that are reduced or not renewed."
