RE: Hey Seminole Indian, hey buddy!
This is the time of year for everyone to have a shot at the conference championship... Everyone has filled all their holes, everyone's players look sharp, and those that are injured are all healed.

Surprised we haven't heard from the Injun himself about how the talent level of stAte is so far above everyone else it's not even a fair fight.

Indeed. I thought of our native american buddy today while looking at few quotes in the smacktalk folder I keep. Yeah, I know, it's nerdy, but some of these gems are just too good to be lost forever in cyberspace.

Here's a sample of what he had to say last year before stAte and the Cajuns faced off:

I'm fully confident they will bring it, and if your team plays it's best and they play their best they will still win, because their team is better than yours. Your best chance to win took the Boise job, and their new coach, like Malzahn and Freeze, is better than yours, a lot better in fact.

USA Todays composite has them at #98 (the Cajuns), and watching them Tuesday even that might be a little high. IMO the only thing you could tell for sure was they are not very good, and TxSt is even worse.

Apparently the Cajuns weren't paying attention when he spoke.

Anyway, this is but one example of why I don't like to smack talk before the game. Some things are left better said after the final score.

04-cheers

RE: Hey Seminole Indian, hey buddy!
For my view stAte looks much improved on the D-line. Top 5 guys last year averaged 275 lbs. In 2015 the Top 7 average 305 lbs. We might rely on a freshman or 2 for depht at Linebacker but other than that should have a much improved Run defense.

Not much to say about our offense we return everyone!

Pick the two craziest La.Tech fans, clone them to have 20, have them drop acid and then take meth so they type fast and never sleep. That's the Memphis board.

Look to have a very solid team as far as talent. They again have the most talented roster of players in the SBC, and unlike last year they have a lot of experienced players returning.

If they avoid injuries they should be in a hunt for the SBC title, and based on talent should have a good shot.

Lack size, and have unproven depth LB, CB, and need a reliable kicker. The QB backups are unproven, and they are still looking for a quality center to step up but other than that they are as good as they have been over the last 5-6 years.

Really don't know what happened down the stretch last year because I was on a contract and did not follow them. Their coaches have said it was injuries, especially in the DL that did them in down the stretch, and their fans seem to be buying what they are selling. Watched them this spring, and their DL may now be the strength of their team.

IMO their coaching staff, is still a big question mark.

They were one of the least experienced SBC teams going into last year but appeared to be coming along nicely.

Again not sure what happened down the stretch last year but their coaches have been quick to blame injuries mostly in the DL, and their fans are buying it. I don't know.

I watched them a little this spring and they looked pretty solid to me.

Don't know what all happened to stAte either outside the Cajun game. I do recall though that this happened to them in that game.

Again you have the advantage over me, I did not get to see a replay of any game after Utah St. Not sure when the injuries became a factor.

Still losing to UL was not a shocker, and while A-State has more overall talent that was a veteran team.

Losing to AppSt, and TxSt should have resulted in some changes in coaches , unless the excuses those coaches, the media and their fans have been making for ther collapse are true. I don't know.

What I do know is this year they return most of last years team, and while many here will reference Rivals, Scout, 247. etc. to make a case for their schools recruiting , when their coach tells his fans that his first two classes were the best in the SBC , he is correct, so it is again the best roster in the SBC.

Not sure where their coaches rank in the SBC, but if they can coach as well as they make excuses they are outstanding.

Our coaching staff gets a pass last year. They get judged this year. I do not believe we are the most talented team in the SBC...I believe we are very good...but a lack of depth gives other teams a slight advantage...

the line i was holding out for.

and op didn't disappoint. thank you semenhole injun. i love consistency. you sir are consistent. of course you'll consistently disappear if/when the red woofs lose a game.

a little disappointed at no mention of x-men......the likes of which the sunbelt has NEVER seen before and littered all over the red woof roster.

but overall a great post by you. people like picking at you but you are only slightly more smug than the rest of the red woof fan base. a leader of the pack in my opinion.

Seriously?

Compare stAte's 4 year run of Bowls and 3 SBC Championships to NT, Troy, and ULL and our fan base is last in cocky.

You know we don't claim Seminole and he doesn't claim us - but even with him, we're relatively reasonable as far as crazy ass message board fan bases go.

When you move an LB to DE late in the year depth is an issue. Of the three down linemen at one point we were starting two freshmen and one was lost for the year against USU.

Over the aggregate everyone has about the same number of injuries, the oddity for AState was in 2009 we had a crazy high number (lost two starters against a SWAC school and went down from there ended up starting a RB at LB at the end of the year) 2010 was normal, 2011, 2012, 2013 unusually healthy though QB got hurt, 2014 was like 2009.

If we can keep having that sort of luck where we can put together multiple years with below average injuries we can do some big stuff.

I'll take smug. Our fan base has never been good at ranting greatness but that's from years of listening to Hog radio and Memphis Tiger sports radio listening to deluded people.

We also embrace our fellow Arkansan Bear Bryant's philosophy of poor mouthing. I know many a fan who will post that Joe RB from XYZ State will be a challenge and over a beer in the parking lot say he will watch the game out the ear hole of his helmet.

Our fans are less affiliation interested than most G5 fan bases because we are 300 miles from any member of CUSA or any football playing member of Sun Belt and know Memphis ain't rolling the carpet out for us in AAC so we just focus on what is within our control.

I thought Seminole was considerably rational to be considered a blow hard. The most talented think was the only push but everything else he said was more measured and optimistic but not over the top.

It's underestimated daily the impact that Arkansas Sports Radio has on our fan base. We've grown so used to listening to Razorback fans talk about how they are a top 10 program nationally, and are instantly competitive for conference and national titles yearly, we're used to Tiger Elementary School fans proclaiming how they are one step from the next SEC invite. When that becomes the seranade of your daily drive to work, you begin to resolve yourself as a fan base to never be like them.

The biggest difference between us and other fan bases is we are comfortable in our own skin. Why become cocky, or become desperate to achieve a status change when you have no rival to get ahead of, and no real control over whether you ever move up anyway.

I've said it before, as a program, we're more like Georgia Southern and App State than we are many other league schools. Same with even a Missouri State. We've just been FBS for longer.
