I look for the MAC to surprise this year. A lot of experience returning on teams that were strong last year and the bottom half should improve some as well.

By the end of the season, I predict the MAC, AAC and MW to be neck and neck in the Massey Composite. The top half of the MAC will be very good. Good enough to bring the conference rating as a whole, again, up there with aac/MW. Even with the bottom half of the MAC weighing the conference down.

If I were to be objective, I'd say the final Massey Composite will be as such by the end of this season's bowls...

1 thru 6: P5 + Independents. (Note: I see the ACC being way down this season)
7: AAC About 72.00 to 75.99
8: MAC. About 77.00 to 83.99
9: MW. About 79.00 to 82.99
10: CUSA. In the upper 80's to mid 90's
11: SBC: In the 90's

I see ACC ending in the 60's....which historically is pretty much unheard of for an AQ/P5 conference to be that low.

I hope AAC has a lot of head to head with ACC this year.....I can definately see AAC having the winning record between the two conferences.

Some MAC teams will shock some P5's this year.

Boise will be the G5 rep in the Access Bowl again, edging out the best AAC and MAC teams. Even though MW I predict to be down a tad this year, Boise will still climb the polls enough to get the Committee's nod.

Actually, SMU didn't mess up by hiring June Jones...as Jones helped the program bring in millions of $$$ from key donors and brought a little life into that then "dead program".

The mistake SMU made was not firing Jones when all the short-term benefits had been reached and when it was obvious that Jones was just milking SMU during his last 1-2 years.

Jones was a very good short-term hire for SMU.

Got to love these threads. Lets take last years statistics and apply them to this year and be biased towards your favorites. Got to love Opinion pieces. 03-yawn

If I ever did a projections poll or ranking, I'd wait until the halfway point of the season to do so. Just saying. 07-coffee3

I fully expect NIU to beat BC (that should please the UCONN fans) and get demolished by OSU (to no one's surprise)

RE: Massey Composite
The Orlando Sentinel college count down is absolutely unfathomable this year. They have the AAC as the next to the worst G5 conference (barely edging out the Sunbelt). They have Navy as our highest ranked team. Cinci at #45 and Memphis at #48 are the next two highest. Almost half of the league is ranked over 100 (UConn, SMU, Tulane, USF, and Tulsa). Houston and Temple are ranked in the 80's. ECU is at #71. UCF is at #67 (ranked worse than MTSU, Ball State, Appy St, and Rice---among other G5's). The countdown is currently at #42 and Navy hasn't been ranked yet. The countdown seems to believe the AAC will be terrible. LaTech is the highest ranked G5 named so far at #42 (but there are several G5's who have yet to have their name called). Based on the number of unnamed G5 schools yet to be named in the G5 conferences, the countdown appears to be headed towards predicting the MAC or CUSA as the highest rated G5 conference. The AAC could maybe finish last if Georgia Southern finishes way higher than Navy in the countdown---but GS would probably have to finish in the top 5 to push us into last. The countdown writer should stay away from Vegas this year. We are going to make his countdown look ridiculous. .

I look for us to be slightly better as a conference than last year. Cincy, Houston, SMU, Tulsa, Tulane, and USF will be slightly better. Memphis, UCF, and ECU will be slightly to much worse.

Doesn't the Sentinel countdown represent the opinion of just one person?

Cincinnati is ranked ahead of 22 P5 schools. I'll take it. Also, I think Temple is vastly underrated in these rankings. I would put them no worse than the mid 60's.

That win against a depleted NIU team playing their worst game of the year sure has the pundits convinced...

Marshall will be hot garbage without Cato this year

Marshall has some talent no doubt, culled right out of the Star Wars bar scene. But Cato ain't coming back and the old saying, "An army of sheep led by a lion is to be feared more than an army of lions led by a sheep", comes to mind. They don't have a proven QB. Cato pulled their bacon out of the fire quite often and against less than the most stellar opposition. Don't see that superb level of play from the next guy.

Until the QB proves himself under live conditions I consider us on shaky ground. Very tough opening half of the season.
