Given that he is competing against a thousand candidates(at least it seems that way) 17% is a high number. Also, the poll found that 60% of Republicans look at him favorably. Given that, he is right up there at the top.

Trumps mild popularity is just some Republicans raising a giant middle finger to political correctness. He's a loon, but sometimes it's fun to say "F-U" to Washington and the establishment.
