No plausible reason for picking some non-athletic personality like Condi Rice. We need someone with a successful Cartel Conference history and who has been frustrated with his own misfortune in not being named Commisioner (thru no fault of his own) of one of those power conferences!

Who cares about enthusiasm? We need someone smart with connections that can move this conference forward. I think DeLoss Dodds might be the most capable person for doing that, if we can get him.

Who is our current associate commissioner or other people within CUSA's current office?

Any chances that we just hire from within?

Chris DelConte or Oliver Luck would be very good picks. Someone who's relatively young is essential IMO.

Alfred White is a senior associate commissioner of C-USA and has been with the conference for 10-11 years. He would be a good candidate if the presidents want continuity and like the way things have been going in the conference. If not, look for an outside hire.

Judy MacLeod is Associate Executive Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer. She's also been with C-USA for about 10 years. http://www.conferenceusa.com/genrel/macleod_judy00.html

Any idea if Banowsky's new job would be considered a promotion, lateral or demotion?

Does it matter? He got the urge to do charitable work. Not uncommon among successful people near retirement age. This is the perfect position for him to marry his skill set with his desire to work with the less fortunate.

No, it really doesn't. He wants to do good before he retires. He would be limited in his chances to do that as a conference commissioner. Pretty simple.

I don't look at it as a demotion and think the ODUDrunkard is right. If he felt led then he is doing it for the right reasons.

Banowsky will become executive director of the College Football Playoff Foundation, the organization's charitable arm.
Looks like the university presidents have seen things on the horizon that they don't believe he is prepared for and/or he's not strong enough to navigate this conference through.

And as we've discussed here may times, football drives FBS conferences and television drives college football. Therefore my guess is that the presidents want new fresh leadership as we head into the final stages of these negotiations (i.e. they're not happy with the news Banowsky has been bringing back to them).
