RE: Breaking News: Barnowsky Gone
I think it's exciting news that BanBan is leaving. It gives cusa a chance to improve a lot. I give Banowsky a C for his stint as commissioner, not great, not bad.

RE: Breaking News: Barnowsky Gone
This is not good, particularly considering a pending new TV deal and the UAB situation. The person put into place will say a lot about the future of this league, and I'd imagine the president's will not waste much time finding a replacement.

I wonder was this entirely on his own accord, or is this new membership not entirely pleased.

After some thought, Deloss Dodds should be the first person we call. He probably wouldn't be interested, but we should at least try. Dodds served as the Texas AD from 1981-2014, and had maybe the most impressive AD career ever. I think he could be a great commissioner and elevate C-USA, if he were interested in the job.

Dodds was paid to be a P5 Guy. Texas still pays him to be a P5 guy, but not too much anymore. We paid Banowsky $500,000 last season. Dodds $700,000 contract with Texas runs through Aug. 31, 2015, but he serves as a special assistant to the university president and can remain employed for $100,000 a year through 2020. Not great money. Dodds might be willing to be a C-USA guy if we paid him around $900,000 a year. Remember, he was forced out of the AD position at Texas.

Beebe seems like a HR, but remember, the Big12 lost several important pieces under his watch. Nebraska, Texas A&M, Missouri, and Colorado all bolted under his leadership.

As far as I know, Dodd's big contract is about to run out. I think he is a better candidate. Look up what he did at Texas over 30 years. For better or worse, he changed the business of college football, and made sure his employer was at the top. We need a visionary to lead C-USA.

No to Beebe. He was Karl Benson before Karl Benson knew how to be. Bad memories of him as the Commissioner of the Ohio Valley Conference back in the early '90s.

According to an article I read, Tom Jurich currently makes $1.41 million a year. I doubt we could afford him. Although he would be a fantastic hire!!

Jurich would be a great hire but would he leave UL ? And he would have to take a pay cut for sure.

Considering the turnover in CUSA under his tenure and what he has had to overcome to rebuild it each time... it probably wore on him. If someone was motivated CUSA could be a good place to apply that motivation to improve the league as a whole.

With the departure of Banowsky, will any talk of growing our membership to 16 now cease? At one time, Banowsky was a proponent of going to 16. Thank goodness enough member presidents opposed it and prevented it from happening.

Benson would be a terrible pick. Delois Dodd and Dan Beebe do not trigger any enthusiasm. Holland and Slive are too old. No plausible reason for picking some non-athletic personality like Condi Rice. We need someone with a successful Cartel Conference history and who has been frustrated with his own misfortune in not being named Commisioner (thru no fault of his own) of one of those power conferences!
