Caleb Thompson out of Danville.

Tall RHP with who routinely hits 90+.

Had solid interest from a number of good programs.

Here are his stats:
Caleb Thompson, P, Tunstall, JR – Thompson pitched 34.1 innings, posted a 2.85 ERA and struck out 45 batters

I am pretty sure he is related to Jacob and Justin Thompson who played at UVA and also are from Danville(Tunstall).

Sounds like a good get. Apparently from his pedigree though, he's the Shemp of Thompsons.

Anytime you can get a pitcher that can touch 90 as a high schooler that is a great get. They only get bigger and stronger. I don't know if JMU had a pitcher this past season that could hit 85 consistently. You cannot teach velocity ----- you either have it or you don't.

I think Ikenberry is going to have a lot of similar attributes to Coach Dean - he really appears to be well-respected in-state and will have the contacts to recruit the state very well. It's doubtful that it will result in such a quick turn around, though. He'll face much tougher competition for the top recruits and I imagine JMU has a bit of an image problem right now with regard to baseball.

I think JMU can flirt consistently with a top 30 program power ranking by effective in-state recruiting...plus adding the occasional NC/SC stud. I agree it may take longer to turn things around because of the Spankmeister's utter failure his last 3-4 years, but I like the fact we've already signed a kid who can touch 90...just need 4-5 more arms like that to join him.
