Normally, this does not deserve its own thread, but the lack of a press release, in the past, has been a major irritant for some posters...

So here it is. Apparently our roster for 2015/16 is set.

We can sit back and enjoy our Summer until early October when full practices begin. In the meantime, players have a few hours of skill work + six hours of strength and conditioning each week (plus class). Our summer will probably be more fun. :)

Timing has been more the timing of the completion of the roster.

When I was at the Convo (July 2) I got the impression that a player (now known to be James Thompson) was coming but I'm not sure he was signed yet (and I'm fairly sure was not or maybe not even yet on campus).

Simply put, the roster would not be released until Thompson was signed and he had cleared EMU compliance. Once he had been cleared by EMU compliance then EMU Sports Info can announce. SOP. Standard Operating Procedures (I was told that).

Basketball office signs recruit --> EMU athletic compliance approves recruit ---> Recruit info is passed to Sports Info by Compliance --> Press release is written and made public. (that is my understanding. I had asked the 'why' question before, might have been last year).

Funny thing Steve, I recall you mentioning the delayed roster posting may be the result of more recruiting. I also recall saying you might be wrong. Glad to say, I stand corrected.

Ah posted the press release on the WMU board those guys over there are fun to polk a stick at. During the regular season EMU has been very competitive with WMU.

I expect this trend to continue.

Write it down: CMU, EMU and WMU will lead a resurgence in mid-major hoops in MI. Also add Oakland which has a high ceiling because of their roster moves in the last year.

This should be a lot of fun over the next few years.

I'm eagerly awaiting Madray's appearance on campus.

As I understand it, because he is a sitout transfer he did not begin summer classes/summer drills like the other players. He should show up with the Fall students in what 4 weeks... (yes, Fall and football are coming).

Interesting, the roster was released but I believe LWH still needs to complete his JUCO degree before he can enroll at EMU. I assume it will go according to Hoyle but things have been known to go wrong with JUCOs.

I'm speculating here (on FB) but we had a Clemson grad eligible who was 'erased' from the roster. Wonder if he didn't complete his degree in time to be certified as a graduate-eligible transfer????

I'd assume he'd had to graduate in June (or before) to start practice next week.

Good questions but I don't think there are good answers.

As I understand it, Madray will enroll like other students for Fall semester. Which is what a week or 10 day or whatever away. He isn't eligible to play this year so there was no sense in him doing summer practice and conditioning.

As far as LWH, he was completing a course for graduation. Based on that, I'd assume that can not join the team until fall semester students move in when he officially becomes a student. I doubt there is August move-ins for basketball players who are not in school (yet).

If I follow some of Bond's tweets, the players might have gone home before the start of Fall semester (assume we are 'between' sessions).

I don't know what kind of summer residential arrangements EMU has for summer students, including athletes. For example, do they live in university housing for summer and then move on to their regular housing for Fall?

What is still amazing me is how the staff at the late date (like late April and even later) picked up Madray (N.Y. state) and Thompson (New Orleans, La - Reno, NV).

These are not players they saw at the JUCO tourneys but had to 'find in the woods.'

We like to look at h.s. kids from say 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles from Ypsi, but it is really contacts which are most important. Contacts are more important than geographical proximity.

Staff did an excellent job esp. given the pressure to replace so many departing players in the Spring window.

A couple of weeks ago the M Live EMU beat reporter said he was going to do a article on the men's and women's basketball signings but I haven't seen anything yet.

Fall classes start September 8.

So hopefully Madray and LWH are enrolled and in school now?

Confirmation anyone?
